Made a few camera tweaks and ended up getting humiliated by the new fancy gadgets.

But a push that first felt like a failure turned into a huge success. THIS is exactly what I'm after with this game.

Spent hours chasing dependencies from libraries I’m dropping, and broke the project so badly I had to revert multiple times. Now it’s clean, except this ugly, glitchy results screen. After the next release it’s getting replaced. Won’t miss it. #GameDev #UI #Unity3D

I toned down the flashiness, and now the smoke, lights, music, and overall mood of the disco track are pretty much where I wanted them. A bit of shadow optimization, cleanup, maybe a mirror ball, and I’m done with this track for a while.

Hmm... crossing the finish line has always felt a bit underwhelming. It needs a distinctive effect. Fancy, but not too flashy. Maybe a brief Matrix-style slowdown as you cross? Open to suggestions.

We had a small test session a few days ago, and the new track was surprisingly stable already. It only needs some fine-tuning and, of course, more #disco.

How do you like the groove? First new track since last summer, and I’d forgotten how slow decorating is. No fighting with terrains this time, but the disco lights already make me dizzy. Wood materials don't work either, but slowly getting there.

First mock-up of a new course with dynamic obstacles. It won’t be this crowded in the final version—just a few obstacles, randomly placed. Plenty of issues to solve already: cars get stuck easily, and it took me forever to get past even the first two barriers.

New Year’s plans: a game built on a 2D heightmap, where travel happens along linear, one-dimensional (1D) routes. It uses a side-view projection rendered in 3D but simulated with 2D physics, a kind of 2.5D. Now I’m wondering if I could smuggle a 4th dimension in somehow.

Dodged a winter storm and got home late yesterday.

I decided to spend the holidays reading (and hopefully learning) about #GameDev: Scott Rogers’ Level Up!, and now starting Jesse Schell’s The Art of Game Design. Both pretty enlightening stuff. Happy to hear any book recommendations.

Happy #Yule! Got a tip to mix Propeller rum with #glögi. It’s a good combination indeed after a long hike in a light-gray winter. And as a very awkward segue back to the game: the pilot on the label would make a wonderfully picturesque race car driver.
