A must read about #AI and higher education!
David Graeber wrote about the rise of “bullshit jobs”—work sustained not by necessity or meaning but by institutional inertia. Universities now risk creating their academic twin: bullshit degrees. AI threatens to professionalize the art of meaningless activity.

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

This is horrifying and awful. TV has been a beacon of excellent and accessible political journalism for at least a decade now.

To unceremoniously fire every black woman and trans person in your organization is just fucking gross and Conde Nast should be ashamed.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

what's really interesting here (discussed in the piece), is that computer-assisted/post-editing translation has been around for decades but it seems that the hype or convenience or narrative of new LLMs is what's really killing the industry now as opposed to Google Translate 10 years ago
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.
