Don’t look away from MN. ICE is still wreaking havoc across the state - changing their tactics to deceive Minnesotans - pretending to be construction workers or folks delivering groceries. Still over 2,000 ICE agents in the state. They’re not going anywhere, your anger and outrage shouldn’t either.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

It can feel like 1942 Germany. The fear.
The uniforms.
The paperwork.

But there’s one critical difference: they didn’t have global cameras in their pockets. We do. History shows the danger. Technology gives us the power to expose it in real time. Use it.

This was completely preventable.

These people didn’t need to get sick.

Measles can kill. It can disable. It can leave you deaf and blind.

It’s a vaccine preventable illness.

Shame on everyone creating distrust in the vaccine and refusing to do their part for public health
'Staring over the edge': South Carolina measles outbreak doubles in a week
More than 500 people are in a 21-day quarantine and about 200 are "actively infected." The largest outbreak currently in the U.S. has spread to at least three other states.

Any Democratic votes to fund DHS later this month as Minneapolis is being terrorized by DHS is going to be a major slap in the face to Americans living here. Demand major reforms or shut the government down.

"Some [teachers] complained about the effect of technology on students’ stamina for reading and interest in books. But more pointed toward the curriculum products their schools had purchased from major publishers."

That about sums it up. "Curriculum products" are killing education.

(honorable mention for Violent Night and Klaus. Also, we watched A Very Jonas Christmas Movie last night and it was more amusing than I expected).
