🦠 New preprint! 🌿 Our bioreporter shows heterogeneous alkB expression in Pseudomonas living on Arabidopsis leaves.
Plant cuticular alkanes may be more than just a barrier, they could also be fuel for bacteria! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
The alkane 1-monooxigenase gene alkB of Pseudomonas sp. FF2 is upregulated during colonisation of Arabidopsis thaliana leaves
Bacteria on leaf surfaces encounter highly variable access to nutrients and water. This oligotrophic environment is partly due to the presence of cuticular waxes that render the leaf surface hydrophob...

In case you're wondering: FU and TU Berlin are not on the list of German universities who have just quit X on January 10, since they already left quite a while ago.

Berlin senat is about to decide upon cutting the next year's budget for universities and scientific institutes in Berlin. Currently they are aiming at a cut of about 8%. Our student numbers are rising and the graduates are dearly needed in education and science. #safebraincity
