The most absurdly fucked up thing about how I learn about the 250+ journalists killed by US-Israel is that I don’t learn their names from the US press or the Western press or even the LIVING press. I learn them from the Instagram account of the late Hosam Shabbat, who was ALSO killed by US-Israel!!!

God Patent Law is so stupid. Legitimately hilarious to see the Big Guys want to win the Ai race so bad, but they couldnt possibly want to have their banal incrementalist ideas in the open commons. The horror! Someone might be better at implementing than us!? Better make it impossible.

the politics that dominates so many tech spaces is so boring and self-defeating: big tech is (kinda) bad and we’ll defeat it with rinky-dink open source projects that have no resources that no one wants to use anyway because we design them for us and our pals and expect non-coders to figure it out

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.

Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

Almost every line of this story would have been simply unbelievable a few months ago:

—Pioneering cancer researcher;
—*Arrested* at airport in Boston;
—Now indefinite ICE detention in Louisiana;
—"Crime": not declaring some frog-embryo samples for research.

Read it.

i love when the tech ceos confirm what i’ve been saying for years

yes, the US is worried about its geopolitical position, but the tech industry has seized on that fear and amplified it to protect its own power by trying to stifle regulations and antitrust cases

I've been talking with folks from outside of industry, and something that I don't think is articulated well enough is: we're fucked, and its a good thing.

Every way you slice it, scaling laws will kill the American Tech Moat exactly where it is and that is a very very good thing for the rest of us.
