An American twenty-something of no particular importance. I enjoy discussions about politics and philosophy.

I'm currently in a discussion re: the budget resolution. I expressed concern over cuts to programs like SNAP. Someone told me I was lying, and to prove this, she shared an unsourced screenshot about how SNAP will be unaffected... by the federal funding freeze that took place several weeks ago.

I'm beginning to suspect that a lot of English speakers believe saying "rinse and repeat" is obligatoruly when they describe something that repeats. You guys know you can just say "repeat," right?

If Biden let Taylor Swift and a team of Swifties assert themselves into government computers to get everyone's social security numbers, do you think "unelected bureaucrats should not have this much power" would have been an easier pill for Trump's supporters to swallow?

One of the highlights of this article is how in Spain, thanks to their pesky policy that all people are entitled to shelter and that squatters aren't just kicked to the curb, this poor woman is scared to own two houses! 😢 Won't someone think of the rich people?!

You ever think about how you're pretty much always counting to zero, whether you know it or not?

Well this was predictable. I don't think this is the worst it'll get.

They sleep with fans.

You should have to earn a sports car or a PS5. You should not have to earn healthy food, clean water, or a roof over your head.

I don't want to say of my society, "everyone indulges and has their whims fulfilled at all times." I want to say, "nobody goes hungry or freezes to death in the gutters."

It bewilders me immensely that so many users here have decided not only to clumsily adopt a new term where "tweet" is already culturally entrenched, but that they've settled on "skeet" and genuinely believe that to be better.

Here in the US, if violent weather/fires/floods strike an area if it's liberal, MAGA says god is punishing them, if it's a MAGA heavy area they say Democrats somehow control the weather. The willful ignorance is depressing and demoralizing.

I love all the quintessentially American responses to this ice storm. Just a bunch of "you can't tell ME what to do!" and anti-intellectual agitation against the idea that educated meteorologists know what they're talking about.
