It is both well known and obscure (depending on your age) that Bob Crane (Col. Hogan) was murdered in 1978. Likely due to his vast array of filmed and photographed sexual encounters. We look at the murder in context of changing landscape of sex and masculinity in US!

Ivan Dixon, who played Sgt Kinchloe, later directed a film about radical Black revolutionaries. FBI pressured theaters to cease showing the film, and all but 1 copy was destroyed.

Perfectly said. Meanwhile the Ukrainians are teaching us how this works. Paying in blood and ruin.
US military aid to Ukraine was the single most effective military spending we’ve had since aiding the Mujahideen against the Soviets in Afghanistan. We reduced Russia’s military by like half for circa five percent of the annual Pentagon budget. That’s a goddamn bargain.

And Trump has spoiled it.

Well. I may soon have to go on strike.
“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recently rolled out a new policy that permits university officials to record classes without notifying the instructor. It’s a practice administrators have used in the past to investigate professors but have now formalized in writing.”
UNC Admin Can Now, Officially, Secretly Record Faculty
The new policy prohibits students from recording class without permission but explicitly allows administrators to surveil professors for any “lawful purpose.”

Habeas corpus actions are the ancient common law writ used to create a legal action to sue for freedom. They were crucial in the early-nineteenth-century efforts to challenge slavery.
This graph showing “habeas cases” suddenly leaping in 2025 —
is terrifying.

A stunning detail the ICE chief shared in this hearing that was supposed to be a brag, except it isn't: ICE has arrested 379,000 people between Jan. 2025-Jan. 2026 -- but only 8,700 were suspected gang members or known suspected terrorists.

That's 2%! www.huffpost.com/entry/latest...

All the rhetoric was about "illegals," not following the law. All of the actual practice doesn't care about illegality. Only whiteness.
Metry and her husband of 4 years go to DHS to get their I-130 in motion. "Good news" a DHS employee told them, the form to start her naturalization was approved.

DHS employee asks the husband to follow him through a secure door. When it locks behind him, ICE detains his wife to deport her.
EXCLUSIVE: Terez Metry was 13 when her family fled to Tennessee from Egypt in 2011. Then, they left her behind. She only recently discovered she had an order of removal from 2011. But she was following the legal path to citizenship. On Monday, at a routine DHS meeting, Metry was detained.

Technologies of Violence [in the Enlightenment]
As part of a large edited volume on the global Enlightenment era, this essay reviews the key changes in technology related to war, defining that term broadly to include conceptual changes (e.g. naval blockade), non-weapons tech (mapping), and
