Loved the #clouds this evening as a #storm threatened. Edwin and I were giving little Benny #tennis coaching. Benny was playing football.

It's #CarersWeek this week — and the theme is equality. But for me, after over a decade as a 24x7 unpaid #dementia carer, the issue was always time. Here's how we could give many carers the time they need to work, to study, to follow their interests ... to be equal milesposts.com/care-combine...

5-year-old grandson Benny's 1st tennis lesson — he's excited about Wimbledon coming up. Even though the racquet's big for him. he mastered the forehand grip and flat swing quickly, and learnt not to try to smack the ball too hard. Roll on, Wimbledon 2040!

From my book 'The Marathon Years' - a decade of #dementia & #love & #running ... the story of my first runs after a 45-year break, what it did to my body, and how it confused my wife.

The Less Visible Man - a story of weight loss
The man Lena's looking for seems to have gone missing. Should we call out the detectives - or is it a dementia thing?

Here's 'Going Well' - opening Part 3 of 'The Marathon Years', my book about a decade of #dementia care, love ... and #running. Read and/or listen to new episodes of the story each week at milesposts.com.
GOING WELL (Intro Part 3) - The Marathon Years
Settling in nicely in the first half of the marathon. Opening Part 3 of 'The Marathon Years'. In the next chapters I'm going well as a dementia caregiver too.

Carrying an Achilles strain, unfit, overweight, but I at least finished the Manchester 10K, my first big #race since 2017, in 57 mins 44 sec. 10th of 46 in the 70-74 age group. Pleased with my #fundraising effort for St Ann's Hospice, hitting my £1000 target as the race was about to start.

So close to my #fundraising target of £1000 with 4 days left before I'm #running the Great Manchester 10K. Thanks for helping me support the wonderful folk at St Ann's #Hospice in gratitude for their stellar support. Full story at ajbellgreatmanchesterrun2025.enthuse.com/pf/alan-miles

Approaching 75, this might seem an odd time to be resuming my race career. But it means a lot to me, fundraising for the hospice that's given me such wonderful support in the past year. How's the training going? Here's a report.

After 30 minutes going nowhere, I finally figure it out: "The pointy end of the boat was supposed to be at the front to help cut a path through the water. Elementary physics. When will I ever learn to think through a problem and stop missing the bleedin’ obvious?"

A story I wrote almost exactly 10 years ago, now included in my book 'The Marathon Years', which I'm serialising on my website. A visit to Ambleside — where there's magic in the air.

Sharing the present with a dementia partner
Dementia made it difficult to share the past with Lena. But sharing the present was still precious.

A new story — for sock enthusiasts — and an invitation. Help me create a Care Combine Activities Manual for people living at home with #dementia ... great volunteering ideas, for example.

Life with meaning and purpose - The Care Combine
For people with dementia, loss of meaning and purpose is maybe even more important than loss of memory. So let's change that.

I'm re-imagining our #dementia care system in my Care Combine series. For dementia patients living in the community, here's a suggestion that would stave off isolation and loneliness, while giving their family #caregivers back their daytime hours.

It's getting real! My Great Manchester 10K race number arrived in the post today. No the number's not my birth-year. Or the last time I ran a 10K event — that was 2017. Wish I'd had time since then to get myself properly ready.

Introducing our dementia / love story — 'The Marathon Years', with a new chapter on the website each week. Also after a decade as a care partner, I'm outlining a plan to reimagine adult social care — The Care Combine.

That's not my two kids, Annelie and Edwin, in the photo. But they're definitely EDNA, and this is definitely their new single.

So the day I chose for my first #parkrun since 2017 was also the day when almost 800 runners came to Peel Park — with tomorrow's Manchester Marathon. A bit hazardous with too many feet but managed not to fall into the Irwell, and finished in a decent 26:22 - 2nd V70 (out of only 3 😀)

My first parkrun since 2017 at Peel Park tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
