Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."

I couldn’t put this book down!

`Atmosphere` by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A space adventure turned disaster. A beautiful love story set against the backdrop of the Space Program and LGBT rights in the 1980s.
5/5 ⭐

Went for a snowy 10 mile trail run today. We reached this beautiful frozen waterfall just as the sun peaked out. Spectacular!

Atmospheric chemist Susan Solomon was born #OTD in 1956.

Solomon, working with colleagues at NOAA, proposed/confirmed the cause of the Antarctic ozone hole, chlorofluorocarbons. She led the Nat'l Ozone Expedition to Antarctica to collect evidence & was the only woman on the team. #WomenInSTEM (1/2)

Just finished The Wayfinder by Adam Johnson.
Awesome book! It’s fun reading about 13th century Polynesian explorers. But it is an epic; I needed to consult the cast of characters. If you’re looking for an adventure that'll keep you occupied, check it out.

I had a hard 17 km run along Lake Superior today. 6 inches of fresh snow on the path. Snow drifts up to my knees. Heavy winds.

Don’t pass up an opportunity to test your grit!

Following 3 deer down the street while driving home.

They can’t jump off the road because the snow piles are so tall, so we slowly trot along…

Update: for the second time this week, a snowplow got stuck outside our house.

In case you wander what it looks like when a snow plow pulls out a snow plow:

It’s difficult to display the magnitude of our snow, but I have to throw it higher than my head to clear the sidewalk. (I’m about 6’ tall.)

I’m proud that google’s algorithm knows one thing about me:
That I was once a shirtless PhD student
I was searching google for a paper that @mikeytabak.bsky.social had written and just got the name typed in and google suggested some options..

Went for a 16km run along Lake Superior today. She was calm and foggy.
I tried to do speed work but the footing was snowy and icy, so I put in a lot more effort and didn’t get much faster. Oh well! Can’t complain when you get views like this.

Today's run got me over 50 km of Elevation Gain for the year! Who said Michigan was Flat?

Today was a nice 18k run while crashing through some snow.

Daily Running can be a struggle, especially when traveling. I'm currently trapped by snow and a highway, so today it was running laps up and down the little 1 km road to get my run in.

I’m on the Appalachian Trail!

Went for a 16 km run in the mountains. A fun aspect of running in Appalachia is that you cross state borders while running. It’s hard to do that in the UP.

Before this year, my longest run ever was 50km. In 2025, I've done:

10 marathons
7 ultramarathons (> 50km)
1 100 miler!

It's been a great year for running

The river was raging today, when it wasn’t frozen. I love the shot of the sun coming through the trees twice: one of them is the reflection in the water.

16 km run on the snowy trails today.
