All this talk of the supposed benefits of AI for drug research, writing, art, music, and more. But with reports suggesting $1.5 trillion or more of investment in AI in the coming years, imagine directly investing a trillion dollars in medical research, writers, artists and musicians.

Apart from the sad news about Freeplay, this is appallingly shortsighted from Creative Victoria: "Of the 81 arts organisations supported by Creative Enterprises in the 2026-2029 funding round, none are games/interactive arts organisations."
Livid and extremely sad to see that the most important institution in Victoria's game culture couldn't get the support it needs to run, already making do with shoestring budgets and incredible amounts of thankless, unpaid work. I love Freeplay, I owe it everything, and I refuse to let its spirit die
An update: Unfortunately Freeplay didn’t secure multi-year funding and is potentially looking at its last year of operation. We’re exploring what comes next & want your input.

You should always keep a healthy level of mistrust toward what government officials say. The official White House propaganda on January 6 obliterates that scale.

YouTube just tried to serve me up a video where Louis CK tells his favourite Woody Allen joke.
a man is sitting at a desk in front of a computer monitor while a woman stands behind him .
Alt: a man sitting at a desk in front of a computer monitor looks concerned, the camera zooms in, then cuts to footage of the man throwing his computer in a dumpster

The ACM Digital Library, where a LOT of computing-related research is published (I'd say at least 75% of my own publications), is now not only providing (without consent of the authors and without opt-in by readers) AI-generated summaries of papers, but they appear as the *default* over abstracts.

Saw this tonight. What a spectacular production. This is the sort of stuff that I want to see more of from opera companies.
Ok, I am an unreformed mythology geek, BUT Opera Australia and Circa’s team-up on Gluck’s Orpheus & Eurydice is the stuff of dreams. Short run, so get in quick and don’t look back bit.ly/49UsBRY
