Be Excellent to Each Other!

"Let he who has never gone to Taco Bell a second time be the first to cast crustaceans."
The 2nd of February will no longer be known as an American holiday, but a day where we declared with one voice that we will not go quietly into that night, we will not vanish without a fight, we're going to live on...we're going to survive...TODAY WE CELEBRATE OUR GROUNDHOG DAY!!!!!!

Dan was quirky and vibrant. And he reveled in certain oddities, like t-shirts.

He has an insane collection of "parking lot t-shirts" and we did an entire episode of Gallen of Questions about it. You can watch it here. Dan will be missed.

Scrolling through Twitter, finding the ancient texts, discovered a quintessential Dan tweet.

Dan was one of the all time best. He made so many people love Philly because he loved Philly so much. So many great articles over the years about the Wildwood boardwalk, bootleg t-shirts and the Neshaminy Mall.

Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

Did the Indigo Girls invent folk punk?

Titus Andronicus covering "Closer to Fine" is what made me realize it.

The Nirvana Unplugged almost felt apart at the last minute. And the man who brought it all back together was Bobcat Goldwaith

The Chili Peppers have an excellent rhythm section. One of the best ever. And they have had a string of great guitarists. That is why they are one of the few bands that can successfully cover a Stevie Wonder song. They also handle Sly & the Family Stone as well.

What you're hearing is a cover of "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. But what Jeffrey Gaines was actually playing was "Bonin' in the Boneyard" by Fishbone.

(That's a joke about Say Anything.)

I voted for Common People by William Shatner last year for the top songs of the 2000s. I was really surprised it did not show up on the countdown.

It's Philadelphia rock and roll history that "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is a cover song. The story involves the Hooters and Robert Hazard. And it was originally recorded in Manayunk.

The story might as well include a Wawa and a Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak.

The Clash's version of "Police and Thieves" is really great, but the original by Junior Marvin is so much better. And the best way to enjoy it is by listening to the entire Rockers soundtrack.

Aerosmith didn't have enough money to fly the whole band to film the video for "Walk This Way" with Run DMC. So only Steven Tyer and Joe Perry appear in the video. The rest of Aerosmith is played by Smashed Gladys.

Faith No More does a great cover of "I Started a Joke" by the Bee Gees. The video features a very young Martin Freeman.

40 Ounces to Freedom was a great collection of cover songs.
Toots Hibbert, Bad Religion, the Descendents, The Melodians.

That cassette introduced me to a bunch of new artists.
