ok but they need 60 votes and they don’t have them so unless some of you vote with them it can’t end. this is a pretty disingenuous argument from the dems.

or the better side of the United States
Pro tip: PDS_BSKY_APP_VIEW_URL=https://api.pop2.bsky.app in your /pds/pds.env if you're on the better side of the Atlantic 😛
I switched to pop2 and it started working

What's more, it obviously sped things up by 100%, because my ping on pop2 from central Europe is half that on pop1

Prob make sense to have pop2 as the default in Europe

The splitting definitely doesn’t happen where you think it does.

this is so funny to me. after all that time they spent on their own dead-end models for this they threw in the towel and outsourced it to another company that can’t get it right.

“Apple’s monopoly on the sale of iPhone apps” is such a Euro-brained thing to write lol. That’s not a monopoly. Apple seriously needs to start cracking down on countries that do this.

Of course, this is precisely why we expect law enforcement to wear badges and uniforms and show identification. Anyone could have foreseen (and many of us did) that this would be a serious side-effect of ICE's insistence on behaving like unaccountable thugs.
New: The FBI is quietly urging ICE agents to properly ID themselves in the field.

In a bulletin to law enforcement last month, it warned of criminals posing as ICE to rob, rape, kidnap—a problem it says now demands national coordination to confront.

By me & @carolinehaskins.bsky.social:
FBI Warns of Criminals Posing as ICE, Urges Agents to ID Themselves
In a bulletin to law enforcement agencies, the FBI said criminal impersonators are exploiting ICE’s image and urged nationwide coordination to distinguish real operations from fakes.

For an administration that frequently calls its political enemies communists, another fusion of the state and private business.

It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

!!!! "Bovino testified that he has instructed his officers to arrest protesters who make hyperbolic comments in the heat of political demonstrations". That's flatly unconstitutional.
Overnight court filings seem to be giving us a peek at what U.S. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino said in his deposition so far (it apparently continues today):

bro even your coworkers are making fun of you bro, stop, what are you doing you doofus, bro what
Lairmore testifies that other agents gave him a plush sandwich toy, which he placed on the shelf in his office, and a patch that said "Felony Footlong," which he put on his lunch box.

Lairmore has chuckled with the rest of us at times. Defense really trying to underscore the unseriousness of it all
November 4, 2025 at 4:57 PM
looool did the sandwich never get unwrapped? is he just lying?
Defense is now questioning Lairmore on cross-examination. They show a video still of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground, post-throw.

"Do you recognize that sandwich?" the attorney asks.

Lairmore won't confirm.

"I did not go back to collect it," he says.
November 4, 2025 at 4:56 PM
bro come on what are you doing man, come on
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

getting blocked for this completely normal suggestion is hilarious. what a bunch of frickin crybabies on this site.
right but i guess my point is if bluesky is focused on reducing incoming toxicity, that weeds those people out even when their PDS does nothing about (or actively supports) their toxicity, which is outside bsky’s control. i think reducing the incoming stuff makes a bigger difference in that sense.
November 4, 2025 at 3:54 PM
every time i look at or try using stuff like suspense or transitions in react i end up going “this is stupid” and going back to regular state hooks. react shouldn’t do all this crap.

ah man i came up with a really silly atproto idea that isn’t social media at all. technically it could be done with a traditional database and api but atproto saves me the trouble of implementing all of that. not sure i’ll actually go through with it but might mess around.
November 4, 2025 at 3:19 AM
bro will not stop saying “sub communities” — we do not need this feature in the bluesky modality. this is so silly. that paradigm does not belong in microblogging.
IMHO Bluesky is the first open social network to ever break out, punching way above its weight, and is big enough that it will never go away.

But it’s still waiting for product features (like subcommunities) which will create very high user retention, which is a requirement for it to go mainstream.

It’s pitch-black outside at 6pm. Why do we do this to ourselves? Just stop fiddling with the clocks twice a year. It’s so easy. This is a solvable problem.
