One of the most risky parts of any airline merger is the reservations cutover when any hiccup could disrupt the travel of tens-of-thousands of fliers.

Alaska is working to ensure this is "a non-event" in its merger with Hawaiian.

A real banger from me and @willguisbond.com on this Friday afternoon. U.S. aviation has had a rough week:

The departures board at Dulles this morning with flights through about 1pm.

Handful of cancels, all related to the airspace restrictions.

If you’re flying today or this weekend, check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport!

Limiting commercial launches to only overnight hours should help mitigate ATC impact for aircraft flow, especially around Florida.

It'll be interesting to see what scheduled launches are impacted, as the launch time is tightly tied to orbital slot locations.
Here's the relevant paragraph:

Proof of tired: I forgot no. 2 😂
👋 to all y’all who reached out asking about your flights:

1. Check your flight status directly w/ your airline if you’re flying soon! This is an evolving situation.

3. Be extra nice to everyone if you do get out - personally I’ve worked 19 of the last 24 hours. It’s A LOT for a lot of people!

Historical context - In 1979 an AA DC-10 (MD-11 predecessor) crashed on takeoff from ORD. Its left engine separated (due to a maintenance issue) on takeoff causing an asymmetric stall when the slats retracted. (Locks mandated in 1982) TAC report from 2019: theaircurrent.com/historical-c...

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

We spent just 10 minutes at the gate before pushing back again. That was a masterclass in handling the unexpected by United.
