A paper that understands its responsibility, in a country that knows it when it sees it.

Impressive from Die Zeit. Refuses to show the salute, but calls it out for what it so obviously was.

Immigration was top priority for just 6% of voters

6%

We have always been a nation of emigrants. We still are.

The far right's call of 'Ireland is full' has landed with only the most potato-brained nationalists

And not a single right winger won a seat

I really do exist in a bubble of leftieness. The age breakdown here is particularly depressing. I don't feel in anyway represented by my peers. I don't think I'll ever be represented by a government I voted for.
Some 31% of people who took part in the Exit Poll want to see a FF-FG coalition form the next government, followed by 22% who want to see a Sinn Féin-led coalition without FF or FG.
Exit Poll respondents prefer FF-FG coalition for govt
Some 31% of people who took part in the Election 2024 Exit Poll want to see a Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael coalition form the next government.

Limerick does have alternatives to FF FG and GREEN. Elisa O Donovan, Soc Dems, rattles all the right people . Maurice Quinlivan, SF, has always been vocal on our hospital and deserves his seat. Also PBP have a strong candidate here with Ruarí Fahy

Not at all surprised to see the "Protect our own" racist clan are opposed to helping Irish carers at all.
It’s election time! I put together this infographic of the key commitments to family carers in at the manifestos - only 1 party got green across the board. #GE24

Mine hasn’t arrived yet either! But fear not; you don’t NEED it to vote. You can still just show up at your polling station with photo ID and proof of address and you should be accommodated.

If you don’t know where your polling station is: it’ll be listed on your records on checktheregister.ie.
When are poling cards supposed to arrive? I switched my address 2 days before the deadline and was worried I’d left it too late as I haven’t received anything yet. But my family and co-workers haven’t received theirs yet either so I’m hopeful it’s all ok but I thought I’d have received it by now.

The Ithaca trilogy - Claire North

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

An extension of Atwoods' Penelopiad you never knew you needed! A fantastic retelling of the ongoings of Ithaca while Odysseus was at sea. Penelope was never a damsel in distress but did she fool everyone into believing so?

#ACOTAR - Sarah J Mass

⭐️⭐️/5

I just don't get the hype (likely because I'm a gay man in my 30s and not the target audience). Read 3/5 books and it was a slog, was also sold to me as smut which is a stretch. Furthermore the main character keeps falling for mediocre men and it's insulting.

A thousand ships - Natalie Haynes

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

An excellent retelling of a time in the Trojan War from the female perspective which introduced me to a whole new genre and a summer of reading that I adored. Cassandra, Penelope and Clytemnestra written particularly well by Haynes.

The eyes are the best part by Monika Kim

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The best new release novel Ive read this year for sure. I'm not a fast reader by any means and devoured this in ~4 hours. Hilarious, witty and disgusting. Could not recommend enough to horror fans!
