For @frontlinepbs.bsky.social, this interview was conducted on March 31, 2025: “The President of the Unites States has declared war on the federal judiciary, on the rule of law, and on the nation’s legal profession. America is in a crisis. America is also in a constitutional crisis.”

CBC News is still active on the Network Formerly Known as Twitter, but not on Bluesky. CityNews has Montreal, Winnipeg, and Edmonton handles, but has yet to post. The Canadian Press has posted, but not since December 23rd.

Instead, consider following @english.lemonde.fr.
The return of the US's predatory imperialism
EDITORIAL. The US military attack in Caracas, Venezuela, and capture of Nicolas Maduro show that Washington now claims full rights over what it considers its backyard.

The States and Denmark with Greenland are founding NATO members, along with Canada. They are already part of the alliance’s security agreement. Everybody knows this, even if it’s not reflected here. Everything “makes sense”, however, in the context of a man who wants to say and do whatever he wants.
Yesterday, we focused on Miller’s wife’s post about Greenland (myself included), instead of sharing this ⬇️

Here, @rolandparis.bsky.social is careful but clear with his take on Canadian and European responses. He describes them as “circumspect” and notes “there are patterns they all reproduce” (views on Maduro, calls for int. law). This reflects “the weak position they currently find themselves in.”

If you, like me, studied media and worked in communications, it’s clear that governments and firms have parallel strategies. In this case: “Sometimes” is an electoral strategy rife with sovereignty talking points, and “other times” is an appeasement strategy for domestic and foreign policy.
That pretty much sums it up. For me, it also hammers home how we've not had a serious public debate of the costs (and benefits) of the "patriot"/democratic versus the deeper integration/vassalization choice before us.

A slightly more adult-sounding version of Pierre Poilievre's earlier rant.

Sobering to consider the extent to which Canada's leadership really isn't capable of meeting the moment.

This is not a ‘carefully worded’ statement from the Carney government. It’s a dangerous move in line with an appeasement strategy: hoping the President sees the ‘we hate Maduro’ part and everyone else sees the ‘rule of law and democracy’ part. Thing is, appeasement never works. It makes Canada weak.

Less than two hours.
President Trump said on Saturday that Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president and would act as a partner in letting the U.S. run the country. Less than two hours later, Rodríguez made clear she viewed the U.S. as an illegal invader that must be rejected.

Pathological liars are bound to lie: “Plenty come in through Canada too, by the way.”
Trump on Sheinbaum: "The cartels are running Mexico. She's not running Mexico. We could be politically correct & nice and say, 'Oh, yes, she is.' No no. And I've asked her number times, 'Would you like us to take out the cartels?' ... something is gonna have to be done with Mexico."

Amalgamation — of Toronto, of Ottawa — is the original sin that has done more damage to these cities than any other policy. It’s an ongoing disaster that never should have happened. The decline of each city is directly attributable to it.
