I care about worker rights and our safety nets, especially unemployment insurance. I've worked for unions, think tanks, universities, a couple of presidential administrations, and Congress. Views my own.
Here is my collaboration with Will Raderman @niskanencenter.bsky.social to look into states that have adopted enhanced wage records and how that data can help UI agencies, as well as training and education efforts for workers. www.niskanencenter.org/the-case-for...
The case for enhanced wage records: Lessons from states - Niskanen Center
There is already wide recognition among states of the value of additional data categories for analyzing state labor market dynamics.

When this is all over, I propose we establish a fund to pay damages to those illegally harmed by ICE, funded by assets seized from those responsible, and if they are no longer alive, their estates. Similar to what we did for Japanese American internees, but not 50 years later.

Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Bidenomics were good, actually?
FOX: How would you right now describe the labor market?

LORI CHAVEZ DeREMER: Well I can yell you when the president took office, there was so much consumer confidence from what we inherited in the Biden administration ... with the delay in dropping the Fed rate, it has caused some more uncertainty

What's different than what has been explored before? “When DOGE is tweeting about UI data, that’s not good stewardship of [personally identifiable information],” Evermore said.

Labor Department looks to pilot intaking unemployment claims for states
The effort follows the department’s notice that it may create a national claims database, a move critics say raises cybersecurity, privacy and surveillance risks.

Thank you, @epi.org for the number of workers in each state and district page! I've been using it all day helping to explain the shutdown and unemployment for federal workers. (Link in replies.)

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for unemployment agencies even if the government doesn't shut down, because all the deferred resignation people will be trying to figure out if they are eligble.

that fox news host still has his job.
Brian Kilmeade endorses euthanizing homeless people: "Involuntary lethal injection, or something. Just kill them."

Pay attention. Something dark might be coming.

The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent.

1/ Here's what's happening.
Stephen Miller: "The last message that Charlie Kirk gave to me before he joined his creator in heaven was he said that we have to dismantle and take on the radical left organizations in this country that are fomenting violence. That was the last message that he sent me ... we are gonna do that."

All of the alarm numbers that I look for in a jobs report are flashing red right now: Black unemployment is up nearly a point and a half from last year, marginally attached is up, U6 climbing, youth unemployment is 10.6% and Black youth unemployment is a stunning 24.8%. RAGE and tariffs are bad.

Tech friends: What kind of coding issue conveniently deletes parts of the Constitution that the current president is trying to work around? I'm not a coder, I need some help here.
Article I Sections 9 & 10 of the U.S. Constitution—which limit presidential power over tariffs and protect habeas corpus—have disappeared from Congress’s website. They claim a coding error is to blame.

24 hours later, what I think the normal people are missing about what's happening at BLS is that they think this is about numbers. Behind those numbers are human beings who lost their jobs. The president isn't just trying to demand fudged numbers, it is actually the erasure of unemployed people.
