Rohit Chopra on @weeknightmsnow.bsky.social: As families struggle with crushing debt, soaring health care premiums, and rising costs on everything from utilities to groceries, President Trump is focused on foreign military action and enriching the ultra-wealthy — not lowering costs at home.
January 22, 2026 at 10:09 PM
Alejandra Y. Castillo discussed how Trump and Republicans' failure to act on expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies is pushing families to forego other necessities or drop their health care altogether.

1.5 million fewer Americans signed up for Affordable Care Act coverage this year as premiums skyrocketed. @gbenga-ajilore.bsky.social breaks down how families now face hundreds or even thousands of dollars more per month, forcing impossible choices as the cost of living keeps soaring.

The Supreme Court is hearing a case today that could rewrite the rules of U.S. economic governance.

An independent Fed protects the economy from politicians. Taking that away would be a historic mistake.

Rohit Chopra on @1010wins.bsky.social: NYC should’ve acted against Motoclick a long time ago. Drivers say the app stole tips and wages, charged illegal fees, and violated minimum pay. With the FTC & regulatory agencies asleep at the wheel, @mayor.nyc.gov is "picking up the baton" to protect workers.

Millions of Americans are at risk of losing health insurance because Trump and Republicans let tax credits that helped families afford coverage expire. @gbenga-ajilore.bsky.social discusses the impossible choices families face as premiums surge and the cost of living keeps rising.

Businesses are bracing for a tougher year ahead, & many are already passing rising costs onto consumers.

The Fed’s Beige Book shows Trump’s chaotic tariff policies are pushing up prices everywhere—from food to raw materials—while wages lag behind.

@hboushey.bsky.social on @bloomberg.com: "Net jobs for 2025 were all about health care. And yet, the Trump administration has made these huge cuts to the health care sector through tax legislation, cuts to Medicaid, and now through cuts to the Affordable Care Act subsidies."

I really don't think anyone knows just how disruptive this is going to be for the economy this year.

It's a big labor market out there (~164 million), but changes happen on the margins,

Rapidly shedding ~100 basis points from potential GDP growth is going to have lots of knock on effects

This “affordability” framework for a second reconciliation bill (i.e. a “Second Big Beautiful Bill”) follows the same structure as its predecessor:

1.)Making it harder for Americans to afford health care, food & groceries.

2.)Tax cuts for rich people. 🧵
🐘📈 Republicans in the House have started about a second party-line reconciliation package.

In other words: A "One Big Beautiful Bill 2.0."

The Republican Study Committee put out its framework for a bill.

Here is everything in it, and how much it costs or saves on th3e federal budget:

Small businesses and consumers already paid billions more in 2025 because of Trump's tariff policies, leading to less layoffs, less spending, and more debt.

Rohit Chopra says we need a system in place to ensure those who are hurt most by illegal and chaotic policies get relief.

On CNN's The Lead, Daniel Hornung says real solutions to inflation and affordability are structural: walking back tariffs, protecting the Fed’s independence, and boosting construction of affordable housing for working families.

Trump promised to cut energy bills in half.

Instead, utility debt is rising, electricity prices are surging, and he's slashing assistance for households.

“This is going to be a huge deal, both as a policy matter and a political matter.” our @alexsjacquez.bsky.social told BBC.
