Bitcoin blockchain is now against that poor TAMU girl's religion and is in VIOLATION OF THE LAW. I'm calling on President Trump to shut it down.

This whole situation at TAMU is brain-bludgeoningly painful. The person who should be fired is the admissions officer who admitted a student who believes that the literal act of becoming aware that some people identify as non-binary is "against their religion"

Many of us were very vocal (I said this directly to the CAS Dean) that this line about 'tenure doesn't mean you can't get laid off' was not working

I'm glad they listened
The big casualty here, from my perspective is the idea of tenure.

The line I've heard directly from above is that "this doesn't affect tenure at all, tenure is the same as it's always been, tenure has always meant you could be let go during a financial crunch and this doesn't change that". /

Big picture, this is a W for humanities and the concept of academic tenure.

Hopefully, it sets a bit of a precedent in the case that other universities try to chip away at tenure.

Looks like the administration may have backed down on closing departments and laying off tenured faculty? We just got an email from the university president saying this:

It seems like all the viable strategies at this point involve some sort of accelerationism.

Peak #blueskyism was Dave Anthony saying "hey I noticed an entire generation of males is actively losing their way, could be bad, let's try to figure out what's going on here"

And Bluesky responding with "Dave u must like rape"

As University of Oregon employees brace for layoffs next week, faculty members say leaders have given them no voice in budget deliberations.
The U. of Oregon Says It’s Involving Faculty in Budget Decisions. Professors Say It’s ‘Fake Shared Governance.’
The provost says he made a good-faith effort to ask faculty this summer how he should cut $25 million from the budget. Faculty say that’s a lie.

Oregon House Democrats grew their majority with Rep. Cyrus Javadi switching parties. Read more from @miamaldonado.bsky.social, who went out to the coast to profile Javadi earlier this year and has the most thorough report I've seen: oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2025/09/05/c... #orleg #orpol

Just a couple dudes, diagnosing and solving fascism, through FIRST PRINCIPLES ARGUMENTS (to hell with the people that have spent careers studying this stuff) using LOGIC and REASON and it's happening here, not on X

Crazy. At my undergrad almost 30 yrs ago, similar story - student accesses flaw in system, CS department kicks him out (becomes math major instead) and the school assigned the student a 20 page paper (not 750 words) on ethics of computer privacy, which leads the student down a cypherpunk rabbithole
A UofO student discovered the university had inadvertently exposed thousands of employees' Social Security numbers and other private data online. He alerted the university of its gaffe.

And then UofO sought to discipline him.
