Settling down with a Lucy Worsley victorian murder documentary. She really does gruesome history documentaries very well.

Our first (cinema) film of the year was My Neighbour Totoro. It's such a gorgeous film and delightful for both me and the little boy. I never tire of it: the music, the wonder, everything.

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead...

I think a major disappointment for me about AI is that it all seems to have turned out so very tiresome and bleak, like a support system for humanity's base impulses, when it should be shiny, sci-fi heaven.

Watching Stranger Things (S5), and Delightful is the word. A bit of suspension of disbelief, but I'm ok with that. Really hope they stick the landing.

What was the last movie or TV show you watched in 2025?

Very well, 2026. Here we go. The plans and hopes are all in place, so let's see what this new year brings to the table.

Leave the year as you want to enter the next: dancing like a maniac in the kitchen to Sister Act while baking cookies with at least 50% sugar.

This year has been full of books: easily 3x more than usual and a greater variety, thanks to the library. I've discovered new authors (Edouard Louis) and new favourite books (Nothing will ever be the same, Børstad Skjervø; The Cloisters, Hays). Hope everyone else has had a good bookyear as well.

I often find myself with a Pratchett novel around New Years. Maybe to soothe myself after a long year and fortify myself for the next. This year, Going Postal. Very apt.

Sir Terry Pratchett is best understood as one of the most interesting, deeply ethical practical (I would say Pragmatist but I cede to actual experts) philosophers of the late 20th Century who just happened to work in deconstructed fantasy literature as his medium.

Somehow we've recorded 250 episodes - a milestone we never thought we'd reach! We've spoken to some amazing writers on the podcast, and today is no exception as we chat with the brilliant @joe-hill.bsky.social & hear all about King Sorrow!

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is just great, and I will not be convinced otherwise. Yes, I'm watching old-school Disney as a reward for a few long days at work. I regret nothing.

Day job has been spilling into my evenings since early November. Not good for sleep, but fantastic for the drive to write (I always really want to when I don't have time).

Movie you've watched more than six time with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (either War or Trek), LOTR, or Marvel.

Hard mode? Well, hard to choose just one, I suppose.

So tonight I am on the sofa, considering reading but instead binging Only Murders In The Building and drinking wine because the cat is asleep in my lap and moving to get a book would be a crime.

Got this one for the boy. He likes it but keeps asking when we get to the dragon. I suppose that is entirely fair.

Atmospheric sky tonight. Even a faint red ring around the moon. Also, still a bit baffled at how quickly the afternoons get dark now - this was taken at 5pm.
