I often find myself with a Pratchett novel around New Years. Maybe to soothe myself after a long year and fortify myself for the next. This year, Going Postal. Very apt.

God Jul to all those who celebrate today!

So tonight I am on the sofa, considering reading but instead binging Only Murders In The Building and drinking wine because the cat is asleep in my lap and moving to get a book would be a crime.

Atmospheric sky tonight. Even a faint red ring around the moon. Also, still a bit baffled at how quickly the afternoons get dark now - this was taken at 5pm.

The first in a series of comforting December reads. This is not a month for despair, at least not for me.

Ok, so it's cold out. In north Norway for a few days, and thanking my lucky stars I remembered to bring the woollens.

October always feel like the most autumn-y of the autumn months. So here are some end-of-October pumpkins.

Reading Night at the Circus by Angela Carter for a book club. The prose is lush! How have I not read her before?

Earlier, at IKEA, I discovered that Sweden has annexed the north of Norway. Huh.

The baleful look of a cat who had to go to the vet today (she is fine) and only has forgiven the ignominy because she does want that warm lap and all the cuddles.

Been to London, done the adult stuff: seen a play (My Neighbour Totoro) and done shopping (Hamleys). That's the correct way of adulting, right?

Got caught by a deluge in town, so have escaped home to a pile of blankets and the graphic novel version of Long Live the Pumpkin Queen. Yes, Halloween starts early here, as does Christmas (traditional advent calendars are already bought). I have no regrets.

Couldn't get a particularly good picture, but the wizard's staff is coming along with a touch of metallic nailvarnish.

Being owned by the cat. Good times.

Took the cats to the vet for their check-up today. Pleased to say that (1) they are well and (2) I am forgiven.

The boy wants to be a wizard for Halloween, and as the autumn is officially here, we have begun making the costume. Behold, a broom handle, bouncy ball, glue, twigs and paint.

Today is the day. I aim to finish the edits on the latest novel. The best laid plans of mice and men, perhaps, but I believe it is doable.

The nicest thing about the library is that I end up reading books that I never would have noticed otherwise. The latest in the list of 'why not try this one' is Ashley Winstead's 'Midnight is the Darkest Hour'. I am still not sure where the book will go, but am intrigued.

Onto easier reading. I re-read Agatha Christies every summer, simply because they are so wonderfully easy to put down and pick up again. Great for the stop-start nature of my summer breaks. The neighbour's cat has come to keep me company.

Nothing is quite like a tattered, old paperback while on the beach.

The trouble with warm weather and black cats. This is one week's worth, just from the stairs!

This has been an inexplicably unpleasant day for no good reason at all. Giving up and reading a book on plague, for perspective.

Saw Flow today, and it was beautiful. I'm left wondering about what some of the scenes meant, but in a good way. Felt like a poem wrapped in a film.
