Excellent piece on current US politics and the democrats. Core message: Trump has NO mandate for the enormous changes he is pushing through, even if we reject that democracy should protect itself (which we shouldn't)

In many countries, mainstream politicians are adopting rhetoric and policies that typical of the far-right.

Our new paper (w/ @dziblatt.bsky.social and E Dinas), out now in the @bjpols.bsky.social, finds that doing so erodes norms more than when far-right politicians make similar statements.

The elections in Poland will raise doubts about semi-presidentialism, rightly so. But it is important to get the critique right. There is unfortunately a widespread belief in political science & comparative constitutional law that constitutional design does not matter for democratic backsliding. 1/
