Man my reading has really suffered this year, ugh - dimly possible that I could hit 50 books by year's end??
Basically I have been either consumed with drafting/revising, during which reading tends to fall away because my brain is already stuffed with words, or running all over hell's half acre

The satanic panic in the 80s policed art & music for turning people to “satanic child molesters.” Years later when the investigations were complete, it was just moms finding out their husband or priest was touching their kids but they invented an enemy rather than confront their own, real, monster.

Shirley Jackson is one of my writing saints because she's so iconic not just as a writer but as a human. She raised 4 kids while writing such kickass books that she outearned her husband! (who needed to get in the sea not least bc he was pissy about this)
She also wrote a couple collections (1/2)

Thank God for Shirley Jackson, honestly, because all I want is to be spooked a little and also be reassured about how hard parenting is in a lighthearted way, and she delivers on both.

Short stories still confound and bewilder me, but a poem a month sounds like a really good idea. I should do this. 💪
Next years plans are the same as the ones that started getting me published. Write and submit at least one short story or poem a month. It's a good plan, gets rid of preciousness.
