Fun little poster I just finished for the local art market drawn using Procreate. I was trying to go for a victorian postcard vibe.

And sometimes I feel like modern innovations have severely squashed the human soul- our ability to create for creation’s sake. But then some continue to create these amazing machines and computers that can calculate complex, huge equations, with significantly less energy and time input than humans.

Wonder is why art and literature, music, acting, theoretical mathematics/sciences, and why religion exists. And it’s why LLMs exist.

Not everyone agrees with that, but it makes sense to me. If I have none of something, without the ability to recall the past or project into the future, it doesn’t exist to me. So 0 doesn’t exist. Apes may also have the ability to recall, but do they project?

And there is still infinite wonder to behold and discover. It’s why 0 is both a real and imaginary number.

Wonder is what makes us human. People say it’s art, or writing, or the ability to plan for the future that separates us from other animals, but I think humanity started with the ability to wonder.

Painting Tip of the Day:
Having trouble with edges - soft vs hard, lost vs found? Try these basics first. 1) Soften edges that turn into shadow. 2) Lose edges at the peaks of highlights. 3) Soften edges anytime an edge passes behind another. 4) Soften any edges that go off the frame of reference.

Another set that turned out pretty cute. This set I hand delivered to the buyer at a metro station in DC because it was so close to Christmas and I wasn’t sure it would arrive on time! #originalart #art #handmade #guitar #artists #acrylic #acrylicpaint #familyportrait #buylocal

A looong time ago I used to paint custom family portrait nesting dolls. I have a few blanks left, I’m considering painting them again, if there is interest. This set probably took me 50 hours altogether. 🫠 #acrylicpainting #art #artists #handmade #family #knitting #petportraits

1000 times this. It's the worst when writers or illustrators or filmmakers apply that to their own works. So fucking degrading.
No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

Honestly, good. Let the premiums sky rocket. Expose the absurd greed of the insurance industry. Expose the callous disregard for human life and health by those in power. If this is what they want, let them have it. The ACA was a bandaid, not a fix, at some point it needs to be ripped off.
Oh wow. Who could've ever seen this coming?

For good measure, some traditional art, a painting I made for my dad. A small copy of Christ Pantocrator. Acrylic on dollar store wooden panel. Not ideal, but worked after much sanding and many coats of gesso.

I know this is from a year ago, but OF COURSE WE ARE against new data centers. We don’t need more data centers. We don’t need AI.

Loudon county just had a land sell for a new data center where the land sold for over 6 million PER ACRE.
If stop MPRP folks are also against new data centers I would love to know.

Do we actually care about a living wages and safe working conditions? If so, why do we support the use of #undocumented workers in order to fill #labor shortages in fields that are low paying and dangerous, like farming and construction?

'Tis the gift to come down where I ought to be;
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

Live like it’s wartime, because it is, and self-imposed austerity is the only way we can get out of the mess we’ve created.

We can’t deforest our way to sustainability and health. From about the 70s to about 2005 Americans largely stopped using lard and butter because “science” (the corn and soy industry) told us hydrogenated vegetable oils were a healthier alternative.
