Samaa’s family apartment in a bombed out building, a few floors up. There are no walls, as Storm Byron destroyed their flimsy plywood walls just a few weeks ago. The floor is concrete and sand, and two large concrete beams hold up the ceiling. Beyond the wide open space where walls once were, you can see nothing but more bombed-out and collapsed buildings, rubble and debris. A scene of a wide dirt road covered in tarps. It is lined with tents on one side, with a half dozen people appearing to be doing some work on them. On the other side are large piles of debris. Behind them are even bigger mounds of debris and the remains of what were once taller buildings, that are now just the skeletons or totally collapsed Baby Talia, 4 months old, lies on a beige mattress with a blue pillow under her head. She has olive skin and dark brown hair, and her big brown eyes are looking directly into the camera. She is wearing brown velour pajamas with a bear on the shirt, with the phrase “FUNNY DUDE” embroidered underneath in white. Three year old Julia stands on the edge of a pattered rug laid over the concrete floor, beige with brown print around the border. She is wearing a white turtleneck under a denim dress with embroidered flowers on the chest, a pale blue puffy coat with pink and white flowers, white stockings and pale pink tennis shoes.
