Using Uber for the first time in a few years, and boy, it has turned into even shittier scam app than it was.

The now-quaint first two seasons of The Simpsons were frequently cited as evidence that civilization was collapsing.
What’s a real thing from your childhood that kids these days would find completely foreign?

Like, how we used to be able to walk right up to the gate to meet our family coming off a flight.

Or how we had to pick a spot to meet at the theater BEFORE we went.

"Robespierre opened his eyes...his eyes again opened; caught the bloody axe. Samson wrenched the coat off him; wrenched the dirty linen from his jaw: the jaw fell powerless, there burst from him a cry; — hideous to hear and see. Samson, thou canst not be too quick!" - Thomas Carlyle
Reporter: Are you going to deport Elon Musk?

Trump: We'll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? The monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies.

I look forward to whatever life development—be it retirement, death, or incapacitating cranial trauma—that means I never have to encounter the word "visibility" again.

The new pope very possibly has first-hand opinions on the early days of the House music scene.

Imagine it, joining one of the oldest, most tradition-bound faiths on the planet (which took 400 years to change its view on Galileo), and it immediately reshapes its identity around hating you.
we're gonna keep appointing new, increasingly more vance-hostile popes until he converts back to protestantism

Chicagoans now lead the Catholic Church and the Assyrian Church of the East. One of us should move to Canterbury to seize power over the Anglican Communion post haste.

2 attitudes driving this:

1. He views paying for things as a failure in itself. He sees his business career as a success because he stiffed suppliers for years.

2. He's a sadist and doesn't care whether his side benefits from a bilateral transaction, only that the other side is damaged.
Again: he is not going to back down from tariffs because the imports collapse is an explicitly good thing to him. It’s the whole goal of the policy.

He sees the number of containers going to zero and thinks *that is a success* because it means we’re not buying things from those foreigners anymore.
Trump: "We were losing a trillion dollars a year. Now we're not losing anything, you know? That's the way I look at it. We were losing with China on trade a trillion dollars a year."

Corollary to this, you'll notice that no one ever demands that atheists be permitted to teach in, say, the seminary programs at Oral Roberts.
The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.
