Conserving the beauty of the world’s reef fish assemblages 💙

Check out our last paper @pnas.org

We mapped what makes reef fish assemblages beautiful worldwide! 🌍

MPAs boost aesthetic, and developing countries have a chance to align conservation with local benefits

Check out our new paper in GEC showing how ecological traits can be used to rank conservation priorities for fish species within the same IUCN categories. Priorities for threatened species can change importantly based on conservation goals.

Large #teeth & highly protrusible #jaws are 2 feeding innovations that have evolved in #fish. But @cichlidnick.bsky.social &co suggest that they're incompatible with each other; large teeth unlock new feeding modes, but constrain how prey can be captured @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/3HVH7go

Counting fish isn't hard in temperate ecosystems...right?

🚨NEW IN @pnas.org🚨

We evaluated the distribution and drivers of aesthetic value in reef fish assemblages worldwide! MPAs enhance aesthetic value and tropical developing countries have the greatest potential conservation benefits!
