There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

AI can now hallucinate very realistic-looking citations that name real scholars and relevant journals. As if grading wasn't a slow process already, now you get to check to see if source materials really exist when marking student work.

This thread is wild
"An academic discovers a paper attributed to him that does not exist has been cited 42 times" is a sentence with an actual referent in 2025.
Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

What do you buy for older parents when they don't need anything? Experience gifts are good but they live in the middle of nowhere and don't like to travel. One starts to run out of creative ideas after 40+ years of Christmases.

Have you seen a movie or a series that had a real monkey or ape (or one you think might be real) "actor" in it recently?

I am compiling a list of such productions released since 2014 and could use your help (I am searching methodically but want to be sure I don't miss anything) (1/2) ...

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.
