Retired but still busy. In a previous life 40 years ago I gave birth to Sligo Weekender newspaper.
Was stuck in long traffic jam on N4 Sligo road into Carrick-on-Shannon today when news broke that the Leitrim capital had won the top Tidy Towns award.
Congrats Carrick on well deserved win.
But it has a long journey to go before it wins an award for free-flowing traffic.

Sligo man tipped for President #Aras25
Best candidate I’ve seen so far for #Aras25 and is he even a candidate?

Dr Mike Ryan, late of WHO.

Unafraid to speak truth to power. Professionally focused on helping ordinary people. Deep appreciation of education and science.

Small issue of being from Sligo, but not from Dublin.

Spent the day in Sligo town, a favourite spot with stuff on every corner that turns the head. From Benbulben dominating the skyline, to Yeats everywhere you turn, to a sculpture of Tagore on the side of Wine Street, to the Post Office that doesn't mind reminding you of the "before times"

The Rural Electrification Scheme finished in 1965.
Now in 2025 we have what amounts to Mark II of the scheme.
Storm Éowyn left 729,000 homes without power.
Trees planted by Coillte beside ESB lines blew down, destroying the network.
Today 11 days on, 32,000 homes are still out.
Coillte culprits.
