This is a really good piece, in part because it's a really good example of how to let the reader into the conversations you have with the people you are writing about and how that shapes your thinking:

President Trump’s decision to order strikes in Iran is just the latest example of a U.S. president taking military action without first seeking congressional approval. Experts tell NBC News’ Gary Grumbach that there’s little lawmakers and courts can do about it.

Interesting week to announce the policy… almost like there’s a big political event coming up & a need to appeal to lost supporters

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

Yr 13 Paper 3... One from the heart, as usual, from Bernie! But also really useful for factions and Ideology in US parties

Yr 13 Presidential power... US Presidents are often constrained by events beyond their control... Trump looks increasingly likely to be constrained by events of his own making. One would naturally expect Pierre Poilievre to be a close ally of Trump but this speech is savage!

Yr 13 paper 3… Handy list of methods available in the senate to delay legislation
When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Yr 13 Paper 3... US Federal protection of Rights and Liberties... EO 11246 was a key step in the move to enforce Civil Rights in America
BREAKING: In a new executive order sent out by the White House, Donald Trump has revoked the federal contractor nondiscrimination executive order, EO 11246, that was signed by Lyndon Johnson in 1965 and has protected employees of businesses seeking federal contracts from discrimination ever since.
