Proud Mom, Democrat, and First Black Congresswoman from Virginia. Representing VA-04 in the U.S. House of Representatives. 🔺
As we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day tomorrow, we must stay focused on building the Beloved Community even in the face of backlash and chaos.

I joined Rev. Al Sharpton and @repstevenhorsford.bsky.social to discuss MLK’s legacy, Trump’s recent threats toward Greenland and more.

While Congress works to pass bipartisan funding bills to avoid another shutdown, the Trump Administration continues escalating tension at home and abroad.

Keep watching for more of what you missed last week.

Congratulations to Her Excellency, the 75th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, @abigailspanberger.com!

The Trump Administration informed addiction and mental health programs that almost $2 billion of their funding would be terminated.

I joined @reppaultonko.bsky.social to urge HHS to rescind these terminations.

Less than 24 hours later, the Administration reversed course and reinstated the money.
Last night, the Trump administration took a chainsaw to billions of $$$ in mental health and addiction treatment grants that were already approved by Congress.

I led 100 members in a bipartisan letter demanding this lifesaving funding be restored immediately.

Today marks the 240th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom declaring that our faith will never “diminish, enlarge, or affect” our civil rights. As these principles face new challenges, I’ll keep defending the First Amendment.

Happy Founders Day, Zeta Phi Beta! Congratulations on 106 years of sisterhood and impact.

My team and I are aware of ICE agents conducting operations in the Petersburg area. We must uphold the safety of our communities. ICE’s aggressive tactics does anything but.

For those in Petersburg: know your immigration rights. Stay informed. And call my office with any reports or updates.

From the start of his Administration, President Trump has sought to weaponize the FCC to suppress freedom of speech and the press.

During today’s hearing with the FCC commissioners, I joined @energycommerce.bsky.social to defend a free and independent FCC as a protector of the First Amendment.

Repeatedly threatening the sovereignty of another nation — especially an ally — erodes the trust and respect the United States has built on the global stage. THAT is unacceptable.

Increased data usage through use of the internet and AI requires more data centers, exploding demand on our grid. Yet the DOE cancelled grants intended to do just that.

I joined @energycommerce to push back on Trump Administration actions that undermine efforts to meet energy demand affordably.

For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected nearly 45 million acres of national forests, including 400,000 acres in Virginia. Now, the Trump Administration threatens to rescind it.

The threats made by the Trump Administration against Jerome Powell and the Federal Reserve serve as yet another example of Trump targeting those within the government who refuse to bend the knee.

It’s past time for Congressional Republicans to put the needs of the American people over their fealty to President Trump. If they don’t, they will face the consequences.

I joined @waytooearly.bsky.social with @alivitali.bsky.social to discuss the House vote on extending ACA tax credits.

Renee Nicole Good died dropping her child off at school. This horrific tragedy never should have happened.

The agent responsible must be held accountable. ICE’s overly aggressive activity and escalation in Minneapolis and beyond undermines public safety and threatens all of us.
Renee Nicole Good came to Minneapolis almost a year ago looking for a place that she, her wife and 6-year-old son could feel comfortable.

Now, her community on the south side of the city is grieving.
Renee Good, shot by ICE, came to Minneapolis for ‘community’
Renee Nicole Good was a devoted mother and artist before she was fatally shot, becoming the flash point of anger against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
