he explained that the boost came after the label accepted a lower royalty payout from Spotify in order to get treated more favorably by the algorithm (I estimate the final payout was ca. $0.002/stream)

A friend who is an accomplished indie rock musician visited my "Inside the Local Music Community" course yesterday and shared how an old song of his suddenly got 2M streams on Spotify over the last year - his cut of the royalties was only $2000 (which he split with the other person on the track)
