I love spicy things, being outside, the ocean, vegetables, taking pictures, animals, and music, to name a few
I can’t wait to work on getting my truck out. The snow is over the bumper (full sized Tundra). It’s 2WD, so it’s grounded anyway, but eventually it’ll need to move…

Plowing this morning (before coffee, in PJs) was really difficult after sleet made the new snow heavy and sticky.

The non-Working Cats tm rubbing it in. They’re cozy, I’m drying 2 sets of snow-covered clothes in front of the stove and heading back outside. Must be nice. Peep the toes hiding underneath.

My big mare just strolled outside (with hay in her mouth) to nap in the heavy snowfall. I can barely see her through the whiteout. Arctic beast.

I wish past me had brought the carafes of hot water out of the barn before the snow got heavier. Here goes.

“Don’t forget, your chainsaw is sitting next to the generator” is a sentence I’d like to not hear again.
January 25, 2026 at 11:55 AM
I am jazzed about trying this new NA beer, AND the butter chick(peas) and vegetables over short grain brown rice I have cooking.
January 23, 2026 at 9:28 PM
I have rarely been so glad to see a freshly repaired generator land in my driveway.

Okay, I have one criticism of my wonderful tractor, and I can hardly blame it since I spec’d it out to be built: no cab. Being on it for as long as I think I will be on Sunday - with the windchills below 0 - is not going to be as much fun as usual. I’ve never plowed 18-24” before.
January 23, 2026 at 2:20 PM
When you have a hard time getting rid of an old box for sentimental reasons: I never thought I’d use this as my laptop stand for almost 6 years. I thought all of this was temporary. I finally got a proper adjustable one, with drawers, and it is much nicer… but that box was vital for so long!
January 23, 2026 at 1:11 PM
I have reached full “almost in tears because I’m so happy with my tractor”. We are in snow prep mode, and hadn’t run it for a while - it’s cold enough that my truck is dead, so we feared the worst. Nope, the tractor started immediately and we plowed the 5” remainder of the last storm. PHEW.

Fermentation station: first I blended the Puma hot sauce that has been bubbling for a while, then I started a big batch of kimchi going. It’s nice to have this stuff around and on standby, since it stores so well. There’s a LOT of sauce.

The eyes of someone who has had a lot of catnip and is hoping you’ll have a lapse in judgment. Don’t be tempted by those soft, pink toes.

It’s SO pretty now that the sun is out. That snow will melt off the branches in no time, although it isn’t supposed to get above freezing.
January 19, 2026 at 4:08 PM
This is not a black and white image. There was no sun. The snow is really sticking to everything.
January 19, 2026 at 4:05 PM
We got 5-6” of snow. It hasn’t quite stopped yet. The forecast was for -3”, and that’s important because that’s the dividing line: we can plow 5”, but not 3”. I sure wish we had known. Now the driveway is nowhere near cleaned up and won’t be. Maybe it won’t freeze too fast, and I can plow tonight.

Unexpected snow day… cabin fever already. I started my day by getting a habanero stem caught in my thick fleece pajama sleeve, and then it was deposited into my French press as I tried to make much-needed coffee. I’m sure this happens to the rest of you often.

Well, at least the cats are comfortable and content. That’s a
relief, because they work so hard. No, these are not the Working Cats tm.
January 17, 2026 at 1:39 AM
Sometimes I’m surprised at what a simple creature I am. I’m enjoying the hell out of a bowl of fresh, raw napa cabbage, shallots, soy sauce, hot pepper brine (acidic from fermentation), and chili crisp. I’ll have Oreos after, for balance.
January 15, 2026 at 5:24 PM
Planted peas in the greenhouse. Working Cats tm were super excited about the sound of peas in packets (tried to eat them). Then Statler went fully into a paper grocery bag for the first time, and eventually came out and smashed it flat so he could take a nap on it. Comfy. Helpful working cats.

The Pawtuxet. There’s a closer one, but the reservoir swallowed it up.
Reskeet with your home river.

Mine is ALSO presently the Patuxent River!

...but as the daughter of an avid fisherman and nomad, there were many before that.

Potomac
Delaware
Allegheny/Monongahela/Ohio
Ohio
Licking
Genesee
South Platte
Seneca/Oswego
Elk Creek/French Creek
My favorite Twitter prompt was "RT this with your home river," so reskeet this with your home river.

Mine is the Patuxent.

Doing a combination of using things up and preparing for a busy week: a giant batch of chili is simmering (started as dry beans and fresh peppers and tomatoes), and a stack of protein pancakes are done.
January 11, 2026 at 5:51 PM
Personal space? What’s that? Peep the toes that aren’t hers peeking out from her belly.
January 11, 2026 at 2:06 PM
After tomorrow’s batch of chili, I won’t have any more home grown tomatoes left (except for the salsa and sauce in the freezer). It’s a long wait until more arrive in July!

There’s no room on the couch for me, but they’re cute.
January 6, 2026 at 6:03 PM
I want to order seeds to plant greasy beans and creasy greens(one catalog has both!), just so I can make a dish using both; the name would be irresistible.
