I’ll say one thing about having to drive teenagers everywhere: if I started with surcharges for making me wait around until they are done doing whatever they are doing instead of being in my car at the agreed upon time I’d be a very rich woman.

It’s a sad day for our country when that drivel passes for a presidential message on Easter Sunday.
Spending the day in Lexington yesterday gave me such hope that we can, and will, prevail as a nation.

Finally updated the website so a lot of my writing is in one place. Still a giant picture of me, but I have an MFA in creative writing, not in website design.

🖋️ “Call for Hegseth and Waltz to resign!” hit 2,000 signers!

Call for Hegseth and Waltz to resign!
Text SIGN PJTPZE to 50409 — I am HORRIFIED that top Cabinet officials—including the Vice President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Adviser—were caught using a commercial messaging app to discuss secret war plans for Yemen this week. Shockingly, they accidentally included a journalist in the group chat. This alarming breach of national security not only highlights the gross incompetence of the Trump administration, but also underscores the growing disregard for the chain of command, oversight, and the rule of law. It also represents a huge risk to our national security as well as to all those who serve in our military. It’s terrifying, infuriating, and unacceptable. This level of carelessness would be unthinkable under a functional democratic administration. But under Trump, it's just another day in a government increasingly run by loyalty over competence, secrecy over transparency, and militarism over diplomacy. When will Congress speak out against it? As my representative, I want you to call for the immediate resignations of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. Also? Congress needs to start conducting oversight like they mean it. YOU ARE A COEQUAL BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT. Act like it! Otherwise you will soon be out of a job. Thanks.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House.

We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication.

They own what happens next.

A huge thank you to @maris.bsky.social for writing this. As a bookseller who is also a writer who is also a local elected official…I fully agree with ALL of this: lithub.com/shilling-boo...

I just saw the most terrifying “ad” while watching CBS this morning…Kristi Noem suggesting that if immigrants leave the country voluntarily then they might be allowed back? But if not, DHS is going to hunt you down?
Also, it was a literal “bow down to dear leader” bit of propaganda…terrifying.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

If history has taught us anything, the art (the books, the movies, the music, the paintings and sculpture) that is going to come out of **all of this** is going to be weird and wild and big and loud and I for one am here for it.

For years I have cited Mike Judge’s Idiocracy and Dave Eggers’ The Circle as extremely prescient pieces of work (albeit taken as fantastical satire at the time) of where we have ended up as a society. What other texts/films to add to the list?

Also, as the proud daughter of a female Episcopal priest? Those women do not mince words. They had to fight for the right to even be serving at that table and have only been doing so in full capacity since 1974.

And what say you now “Christians”? To this Episcopal bishop preaching the teachings of Christ. Love thy neighbor, indeed.
Trump is mad because he realized yesterday that he got told off by a woman who he assumed was not powerful.

Clergy. Soft voice. Woman. Oh but power comes in many forms. Disarming these folks is very effective. Love to see it.
Trump exploded in fury at Bishop Marian Budde on Truth Social a little after midnight, calling her a "hater."

As we argue on today's pod, there is nothing MAGA despises more than appeals to common decency and humanity.

Hey Bluesky!
Trying to rebuild my writing/bookstore connections since the other side is a bit of a hellscape right now.
I’m a writer and an indie bookstore manager and I live with my family in MetroWest Massachusetts where we have one cat and no chickens. Yet.
