If health insurance companies were actually “healthcare providers” they would be using technology to find new ways to save lives, not using technology to develop AI that denies claims and generates profits faster.

Health insurance is not healthcare.

We need Medicare for All.

"Repeat after me: there was no 'landslide'. There was no 'blowout'. There was no 'sweeping' mandate given to Trump by the electorate. The numbers don’t lie."

My new Guardian op-ed on the new GOP election lie - and why it's important to rebut it! I brought (lots of) receipts:
Donald Trump didn’t win by a historic landslide. It’s time to nip that lie in the bud | Mehdi Hasan
In 2024, we have a new post-election lie – Trump didn’t just win, Republicans say, but he won big. He won a landslide. That’s false

Sometimes the combination of arrogance and ignorance is breathtaking. Yes, US health care has high admin costs; that's because it relies so much on private insurers. Govt-run health insurance has much lower overhead

People hate health insurance companies with a passion. They’re not laughing because someone died—they’re laughing because the system that crushed them finally took a hit.
Thou Shalt Not Deny People Health Insurance
Capitalism and healthcare do not mix.

Health insurance is wild. You pay every month for months, years, decades, in case something catastrophic happens.

Then it does and the insurers are like yeah no not THAT kind of catastrophe.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪
There are already many articles for which there is more attention on Bluesky than on other comparable micro-blogging sites, meaning the academic community and the general public have clearly adopted Bluesky as one of its core places to disseminate and discuss new research.

A Place of Joy.

I don’t want or need to be “protected” from my trans sisters in the bathroom.
The guise of “protecting women and girls” is just a means to control us all.

We have so much to learn about why our immunotherapies have such varied responses in real situations. This research offers some insights that will help us continue to figure it out. #oncsky
Only a subset of patients respond to immunotherapy

Why? Which ones?

We conducted an unbiased analysis of response biomarkers and found that hundreds of possible biomarkers collapse into five latent, orthogonal factors that underlie immunotherapy response.

As a head and neck cancer doctor, I hope we see the same for HPV related oropharynx cancers in the future. The HPV vaccine is not just for girls!
The HPV vaccine has been recommended in the US since 2006. New study out today shows that cervical cancer deaths in young women in the years that followed have plummeted, decreasing 15% per year from 2013-2015.

MAHA. Not only is this an acronym that already has an anxiety-provoking reaction to hem/onc docs at least, but fixing chronic disease is a challenging outcome to measure in a 4yr term.
