Writer, reader and forager. Would have been burned at the stake in times gone by (brag). Now just regularly shunning everyone.
In totally out-of-this-hellhole-world news, a former colleague of mine is a contestant(? dunno how that show works) on Voice of Finland and I just watched her performance and WOW! I had chills all through it. She's also such a sweet and lovely person, I'm so glad she is doing what she loves!

I'm heading to an actual work party. This is our "Christmas party". Because I work in retail and there's no party before Christmas.

I will count this as my social interaction of this half of the year. Will be staying in with the cat for the rest of the winter.

Had one of those epiphanies about my plot where my stomach drops and fills with butterflies and I feel giddy.

Some days as a writer suck. Most days it's just plodding along. And then there are these days.

I'm heading to work so no writing for me today. But will plot all day.

There’s lots of reasons why being colonized by aliens would probably be terrible, but increasingly I’m willing to do it for the irony.
On X, a senior U.S. Justice Department official is promoting a post that praises colonization as “one of the greatest things that ever happened to the backwards parts of the world.”👇

Have started to tentatively write again. I feel like my stories have been missing lately. I've been trying to work on old scripts that hold no interest at the moment, so now I'm doing 400 words/day, freewriting, and seeing what comes up.

How is it that a bag of chips I opened 4 seconds ago 3 metres from my cat already contains my cat's hair?

Happy Holidays!

Our yearly Christmas eve dinner w the fam went surprisingly well. Maybe bc I took a few drops of cbd oil beforehand.

Also had Yule sauna and my brother has a hot tub in the yard under the stars.

Ended the night w cheese, gingerbread, the midnight mass, and fell asleep on the sofa.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

I recently mentioned I was watching a Christmas movie and someone replied w a link to their blog essay about why ppl hate Christmas nowadays.

I guess at least the block function gets good use.
The number of absolute weirdos in these replies, jfc.

Lady posts her Xmas dinner cooking plans. Does not ask for advice. Does not imply stress, overwork, or worry.

Weirdos: MAKE THIS! MAKE THAT! DON'T MAKE ANYTHING! DO THE ROAST THIS [WRONG] WAY! DO WHAT I TELL YOU!

As if they're fuckin invited.
Looks like I'm cooking supper for nine people now on Christmas Day, so adding in another side dish (cauliflower & broccoli cheese).

So I'll slow roast the, well, roast on Christmas eve, then cook all of the sides Christmas day, then I'll bring over to the inlaws.

Might do the potatoes there 🤔

Today at work was HORRIFIC. I want to thank each and everyone who didn't go shopping today and won't go shopping tomorrow.

I keep thinking how bonkers this all must seem to ppl who are not celebrating Christmas. A huge rush to buy all the stuff and food and things.

Just finished watching Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. Which is very vaguely and distantly based on Mary Shelley's novel which I finished rereading just before pressing play.

I have to say it was a very very good movie. And like all the directors before, del Toro became Frankenstein.

No Gaston backstory is necessary, but now I want him to Flashman his way through Revolutionary/Napoleonic/Restoration France. Like he unwittingly foils the flight to Varennes, is nearly executed in the Terror, betrays both Napoleon and Louis XVIII, that kind of thing.
I do not want Gaston backstory, I do not need Gaston backstory, I reject Gaston backstory

he is a fully formed oaf, consuming eggs by the dozen in one of the greatest villain songs ever written, and that is all we need of him

Also Christmas shopping after.

Will do nothing for the rest of the day.

There's a nest of shrews or mice under my house next to the sea view armchair so I'm sitting here next to a distracted cat who keeps staring at the floor ears twitching.
