Just amazing to me that law talky guys are immovably convinced that there is no unacceptable conflict in the Shadow AG acting in an asset freezing case for a PEP who is a citizen of a hostile power under economic sanction by the UK.

Very tedious law talky guys (rhubarb rhubarb cab rank) who insisted there was no problem with Wolfson acting in this case might want to reflect about whether it’s remotely tenable for the SAG to be in this position, particularly right now.
Kemi Badenoch’s spokesperson has said that the shadow attorney general Lord Wolfson has recused himself from any legal advice over Ukraine or Russia because he is representing Roman Abramovich - which would include anything about the deployment of UK troops. That’s a bit awkward.

🔴 Good to see a Democracy for Sale story raised in Parliament today

@philbrickellmp.bsky.social asked FO minister Stephen Doughty about our reporting that two ex UK ambassadors are paid lobbyists for pro-Russian, genocide-denying Republika Srpska

Government ministers could also ask the police what they are doing - if anything - about such a scale of actual unlawful content being produced both by users on the platform + the platform itself, as well as asking a regulator to look into the obvious gaps in enforcement re the site's legal duties.

As @dsquareddigest.bsky.social has said, why is this being left to Ofcom? Publishing CSAM is very obviously a criminal offence. Where are the Met?
Good to see a Cabinet Minister call the unlawful sexual harassment on X "appalling": She backs Ofcom "to take any enforcement action it deems necessary". Ofcom asked X to urgently advise on how it is protecting users from its own production of unlawful content at scale www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Yesterday Meloni rushed to describe US intervention in Venezuela as "legitimate". In a reversal of their usual roles, Salvini is the cautious one talking about diplomacy as the "highroad for solving international disputes" and "peoples' right to decide their own future.

again, every Democrat has not in fact done this by any stretch of the imagination, and there have been multiple statements - here's a few - www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/art... - that condemn this unequivocally but sure, if you just lie about it you can feel fine saying both sides are the same.

It’s the anti-Suez isn’t it? U.S. asserting military power in “its” sphere of influence and UK and France saying grovel grovel, you go right ahead.

Not for the first time, where other European leaders wring their hands over Trump, Spain’s Sánchez draws a line. A stance that is only looking more sensible (more *realistic*) as time goes on.

So as well as MTG we have to invite Le Pence to the residence?
Wasn’t expecting this.

Then again, being a US poodle wouldn’t play well with French voters. Not even the fat right ones.

A side story is there’s a ton of insider trading on these prediction markets. New accounts making hundreds of thousands on their first and only trade, that maduro would be ousted. Seems like insider trading is legal if not encouraged on these platforms

Once again, one of the primary reasons we have arrived at this point (completely out-of-control & unconstitutional abuse of executive power to conduct wildly illegal foreign policy) is that no one, including the most senior people involved, went to jail for the rest of their lives for Iran-Contra.

The United States is a rogue actor throwing the world into disarray. It hosts war criminal Netanyahu, sanctions ICC and European officials, launches strikes around the world, and now kidnaps foreign leaders.

Western allies need to stop it if they truly believe in human rights and international law.

The US attack on Venezuela is an illegal act of aggression against a sovereign country (with lots of oil). Venezuela has become a more deeply repressive dictatorship & urgently needs democratic solution but this is unjustified & unjustifiable. Look forward to seeing swift UK Government condemnation.
