Glad that someone has finally taken responsibility for the appalling assault on democracy that was the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

I mean, really these BBC allegations should have been discredited by the fact the guy thought they were biased *towards* trans people.
Deeply sad to see it kowtow to the right.

🚨 INVESTIGATION: Britain's maternity crisis has deeper roots, extending into the universities trusted to train the next generation of midwives. A majority are still promoting a normal birth ideology while women are more complex than ever:

Stop promoting natural birth ideology, midwife courses told
Despite a litany of scandals, universities are still pushing ‘normal birth’ over medical interventions. Now our investigation has prompted the regulator to act

I've written a couple of things over the last days about how the government and much of Westminster remaining on X as the platform becomes increasingly toxic is having consequences for our politics...
Our politics is increasingly normalised to racism – because politicians are addicted to X
The platform has quietly dragged British politics into a dark place

Lots to unpack here. Why is the burbling of the CAN-SG's extremists now worthy of a news story in the BMJ?
More seriously, for all that the status quo (de facto ban on medical transition) is unacceptable, the only realistic way forward is to do the trial. Which is... where, exactly?

This, from Devi Shridar's Guardian newsletter, is total horseshit. Where's the evidence that children missing school "just don't want to?".
It's exactly the kind of judgemental BS parents have to deal with every day.

It seems more and more GPs are refusing to take on shared care with specialist teams for #ADHD.
This makes sense if you think of a GP practice as a small business needing to maintain profit margins.
But most small businesses allow their customers to go elsewhere for a service...

The rebranding of reactionary gender and biological essentialism as “heterodox and challenging ideas to which liberal students must be exposed” is one of the greatest achievements of our stupid era. Congratulations to the reactionary centrists who helped make it happen - you dupes, you utter dolts.

The thing is, not just is this not true (of current Reform intenders or especially their 2024 vote), but it's actually somewhat unusual in British politics to be the most popular party and have a support base as deviant from the median voter.

Another excellent post on this: a reminder that the fact that the evidence for gender-affirming care is weak DOES NOT justify a ban.
And yes, what is happening at the moment in the UK is a ban on medical transition in youth by any other name.
There's been a big fight over gender-affirming care after Gordon Guyatt and his team at McMaster released a statement contradicting their former funders' public policy.

I wrote about the whole thing, and what "evidence-based medicine" really means.
