A few years ago, when I learned about licensed employees, I asked a Target Starbucks worker about it, and they told me they didn’t receive Starbucks benefits—which I clearly misinterpreted as them being in a weird employment grey area and not receiving benefits at all.

100% what happened. The history of anti-trans politics is trying to design a legitimizing study around a conclusion, massaging the data when that doesn't work, and then just giving up and raw-dogging what they were going to do anyway.
Kind of feels like the IOC expected for the study to say "yeah trans women are like the hulk somehow" and when it completely undercut the reasoning behind banning us. They have simply elected to ignore their own work.
