we are still years out from the Democratic primary, and I think it is genuinely deranged that there’s people out there who believe there’s no other choice and thus we must rally around the flag of, all people, Gavin Fucking Newsom to save the republic

#OTD 146 years ago, Wilhelm Siegling (1880–1946) was born 🎉 He was an Indologist and expert on Sanskrit, Avestan, Tibetan, and especially Tocharian. Together with Emil Sieg (1866–1951), Siegling discovered and deciphered the language, and they also coined the glottonym.

I hesitate to add that the only strategic priority listed for SSHRC (humanities and social sciences) in this Tri-Agency initiative seems to be "democratic and community resilience" and uh, at this juncture I don't think we should be trusting the Americans on this one.
