I'm not into subscription channels, but my husband wanted to see a particular show, so we subscribed to Netflix for a month. All I can say is, thank God for Martin Scorsese, whose imprimatur is on just about anything worth watching: ...

Thanks to all who came to the screening of Shades of Greene, the Graham Greene anthology drama series made by Thames in 1975, which I showed at the Electric Palace in Hastings as part of their TV season. (TV was invented - or perhaps discovered is the better word - in Hastings.)

Sad to hear of the death of Diane Keaton. She's always been my favourite contemporary movie actor. She's sublime in Woody Allen's films and also in The Godfather. I wasn't always nuts about her later films which tended to be gooey Hollywood, but she was always a delight.

I'm pleased to say I'll be introducing three stories from the 1970s Thames anthology series Shades of Greene, dramatisations of short stories by the great Graham Greene, this Thursday, 9th Oct at the Electric Palace, Hastings.

So atmospheric. Logopolis has many of my favourite Adric moments, with him questioning the Doctor and reacting to revelation after revelation as that sepulchral atmosphere builds in the first two eps. You took this 8 yo right along with you. As for Castrovalva: "Me! I'm the trap..." Marvellous.

He had a very individual, independent approach to Doctor Who. A careful balancing of the things we all love about it with the subjects that interested him. Hence, we get a smorgasbord of quantum physics, mystery play and philosophy for a new spin on established storytelling formula and symbols.

The timing of this also makes it something of a tribute to Chris Bidmead.

There’s so much to say about Chris Bidmead’s Dr Who. Its pleasing coldness, its determination to turn maths into drama, its victory over the chaos and entropy that plagued his predecessor. Traken/Logopolis/Castrovalva are all one story, aren’t they? His Master’s Masterplan. RIP

Same here. Has anyone in Doctor Who ever blended science, fantasy and art into such original & captivating stories? His legacy on the show is enduring. I never met Chris but his influence on Doctor Who made me a lifelong fan and his stories inspired my love of both science and art at an early age.

Very sad to hear we've lost Christopher H Bidmead. Always struck me as a very genial chap who took his work seriously but not himself. Hard to over-express my admiration for Frontios, and the ideas in Logopolis and Castrovalva, where mathematics is treated as where philosophy and poetry meet.

Woke this morning to learn of Chris Bidmead’s passing. The man responsible for my break into TV, and my unwitting entry into a global family in which I’ve remained to this day. For both of which, I’m forever grateful. Vale Chris

Very sorry to hear about Christopher Bidmead's death. As script editor, he gave DW a new lease of life during Tom's last year, with a season of extraordinarily interesting and tonally wide-ranging stories.
