A dude who reads & watches far too much sci-fi & cult TV/cinema. Massive Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, Star Trek, Star Wars & Bond fan & co-host of the Who Corner to Corner Doctor Who podcast.

Blake’s 7 series 2 blu ray out soon so now feels like a good time to catch up with series 1.
I’ve watched this a few times over the years but this is my first time on shiny BluRay with new FX and cleaned AV.
Given how bright & sharp the iconic intro looks (and sounds!), this is gonna be great!
Now do it with a toaster! 👇

Picked this one up in a charity shop today and according to Jack Reacher’s CV - printed in the flyleaf - he’s now 62 years old.
Probably still knock the crap out of anyone half his age though!

Foundation series 3 is…
Absolutely 100% EPIC!!
To give Asimov’s books the scale they deserve, to weave in stories from the Robot series & Foundation prequels, and then to reinforce big concepts with even bigger concepts both old & new and to give each flawed character weight & agency… just … wow!! 🤯

It’s been a long time since I read the Foundation novels but I remember then fondly. And I’m loving what they’re doing in the TV series: simultaneously homaging Asimov’s OG stories, worlds and big concepts, and adding to them too.
This exchange from ‘Demerzel’ at the start of S3 gave me the tingles.

Jeez… way to make me feel old. I remember snapping these up when they came out. And ‘Master’ is still one of the most sublime Big Finish stories ever made.
ON THIS DAY... 22 years ago, Master by Joseph Lidster and The Wormery by Paul Magrs & Stephen Cole were first released by Big Finish Productions. Cover art by Clayton Hickman and Lee Binding, respectively.

NOW READING 📖
“The Hard Way” had just been published when I first started reading the Jack Reacher novels. I remember it being promoted everywhere but figured I needed to begin at the beginning and read them in order.
Nearly 20 years later I’ve finally caught up!

Next up on the Blake’s 7 rewatch, it’s … ‘Duel’. A story which pits Blake and Travis against each other in the most direct way possible, literally right at their throats.

‘Mission to Destiny’ is the somewhat grandiose title of the next story in my Blake’s 7 series 1 rewatch. Will this one continue the story of Blake and his rebels at the same high level as Seek-Locate-Destroy?

I’m back on with Blake’s 7 s1 BluRay and the next episode is a big one.
So far B7 has been trying out a few different sci-fi styles with mixed success, but I’d argue that ‘Seek-Locate-Destroy’ is the first story which establishes a fully-rounded template for what this show is to become.

My Blake’s 7 rewatch of Series 1 (or Series A) continues with… Time Squad! Which sounds pretty magnificent! And after the quality of the previous 3 stories, this must be another good one, right?

I quite enjoyed Stargate Universe, what there was of it anyway. Didn’t really get on with the original series, but this was much more my cuppa tea.
Stargate Universe started 16 years ago today on Syfy.

I know it's not the most popular Stargate show, but I liked it, and I would have liked to get an ending. 😅

The Destiny was a neat idea for a mobile home.

Finished watching #AlienEarth last night and really enjoyed it! Lots of horror - loved the eye thing! - plenty of action and a good dose of ethical debate on the evolution of AI in relation to biological humanity.
Plus its depiction of tech oligarchs felt chillingly relevant.
Oh - And Mr Strawberry!
