In her latest BiEAPG blog, @jomarovic.bsky.social takes on the EU’s approach to the Western Balkans:

Another day, another train test, except this time I have to pay 🥳
It's time to finally try out "the competition" and with the Sbahn being so messed up any train starting or ending at Ostbahnhof is welcome. We're off to the Spielwiesn in Augsburg 🤩

I'm heading for an ICE-L testrun today! Disclaimer: anything I post will be positive, we've been told to not report teething problems etc. on social media. But I'm hopeful it's all gonna be great 🚄🚄🚄

This seems like quite a big deal to me, but the topic is complicated and the TS analysis behind a paywall, so it's not being widely reported? In any case Bahnblogstelle seems to have a good summary of the TS article:

I was told early this morning at short notice I need to go and see Frozen the musical in Stuttgart. I'm staying positive. And if it's hard going, I'm assuming there's a drinks break in the middle 🥂

So if somebody really wanted to, a night train Germany to Turkey without changing locomotives would be possible?

Paris-Berlin sleeper: low carbon, 2 years old, constantly full, but currently losing SNCF a few million EUR/yr

Intl Jet fuel tax exemptions are 80 years old and cost the EU 22 million EUR/yr for the Paris-Berlin route alone.

And you're cutting... the sleeper?

This is the first info I've seen directly from DB about the new direct daytime Munich-Zagreb connection spotted by @martinbertsch.bsky.social a couple of months ago.

Probably my last trip on a DB IC1, at least on the Amsterdam/Berlin route. Looking forward to the return of a Bordbistro but will miss these a little bit too 😊

After a week of hopping around (Cologne, Brussels, Flanders, Amsterdam) with kids and suitcases we've made it to a rainy, windy Ameland. I've a few things I'd like to write down, especially about Flanders, but I first need to gather my strength and get settled down...

Visiting Italy for the second time in my life is both wonderful and slightly shameful given we only live a few hours from the border. It's close enough to think we can do that any time and far away enough to mean we never put in the necessary planning to make it happen 🫣

I guess it was bound to happen to me eventually, after being treated nicely by SNCF all day in France (new reservations on a TGV instead of the regional train we missed due to a delay) we hit the Italian border, and, no Agreement on Journey Continuation applies. Why? 1/2
