Here is part of the response I received from VRR after enquiring about the situation:

Refreshments involve a coffee machine and a vending machine. What I like though, is that there's a little seating area beside the machines. Nice touch. And the coffee isn't bad at all. It all feels a bit nicer than a regional train but substandard compared to an ICE.

Another day, another train test, except this time I have to pay 🥳
It's time to finally try out "the competition" and with the Sbahn being so messed up any train starting or ending at Ostbahnhof is welcome. We're off to the Spielwiesn in Augsburg 🤩

If there's one thing we have down that way, it's plenty of DMUs! Perhaps by then Wasserburg will finally be electrified and we'll have a few spare.

Nice smooth journey, arriving into Frankfurt early. The train is wide and roomy, the internet worked well. It's not a revolution but a very useful train for people to board easily and if you need diesel instead of electric traction.

I admit, I'm a little excited

Excitement!

@seatsixtyone.bsky.social Berlin/Poland trains should now be bookable/reservable all the way through to payment & ticket on bahn.de for dates from 14.12.

However, my son decided last minute to switch to the 1889 "Fenster" auf carriage...

Seems I missed our big beautiful map at www.deutschebahn.com/de/presse/pr.... With Brig, Antwerpen, and Zagreb on it 😅: www.deutschebahn.com/resource/blo...

Here are timetables in Sarajevo and Strizivojna-Vrpolje and our (handwritten!) tickets. We wanted to take the connection with a change (450/748) instead of the direct train 396 to Zagreb. My wife had figured it out. In Zagreb a portion of the train was coupled on to our night train heading west.

Thanks for a great article and documentation! We took the train from Sarajevo to Zagreb with one change in Strizivojna-Vrpolje in 2010. I've attached a couple of photos.

Probably my last trip on a DB IC1, at least on the Amsterdam/Berlin route. Looking forward to the return of a Bordbistro but will miss these a little bit too 😊

To change gears: the trip allowed me to increase my international train travel horizons. I had a chance to take a quick look around magnificent Antwerpen station and to try out the new ECD train to Amsterdam. Moving around Belgium and the Netherlands by train has also been educational.

We finished our tour in Ieper which provided a chance for me to try the Flemish stew and the children to finally get some proper Belgian waffles. I would have liked to have stayed for the Last Post daily tribute at 8pm at Menin Gate but it would have made the day a bit too long.

We visited the Hill 62 Memorial & Museum (incl. preserved trenches/tunnels), the Passchendaele museum & Tyne Cot cemetery. Passchendaele has a track for children and does a great job of explaining how the war progressed with a focus on the conflict around Ieper. It was hard going but worthwhile.

Our main aim in Brussels was to see some comic museums. This was particularly for my daughter who likes to draw. The first, Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée, the Comic Art Museum, is well done and certainly a nice place to spend the afternoon but maybe a little too "academic" in places for kids?

We do sell them, just (as usual) not if starting outside Germany 😊

This Birdy is starting to come in handy and hasn't caused me any bother on any trains (Munich and Frankfurt areas) so far. Thanks to @jonworth.eu for the recommendation!

Bei mir ist es Zeit für eine Neue... sie kommt mir ein Bisschen wie eine Computer-Maus vor!

Glad we got that one cleared up

But I don't want to think about that, we've been travelling near or along the mediterrean coast all day, the delay might make for a lovely ocean sunset.
