NEW CREDIT (kind of) GET (approximately) 😂
It's not quite new (I did this a while ago), and it's not quite a credit (at least not one of my usual ones), but for those of you preparing to skip work for the next few days to binge Hades 2 like the rest of us in the games industry...

Now that it's out...

I had the incredible honor of playing the cello and upright bass on the new album from @rebeccasugar.bsky.social, the animation legend and creator of Steven Universe. I've been a fan of them for ages, so this was SO hard to sit on 😅

The legend himself, Yasunori Nishiki, is joining us on Goldman! The soup that me, Kevin Penkin, and Pete Lepley have been cooking just got INFINITELY more enticing ❤️

Heading out to GDC later today, but to quickly announce one more credit before I go... I'm the pirate crew in "The King of Wayward Souls (Self-Proclaimed, but Destined!)" for Wuthering Waves! Another @adamgubman.bsky.social banger in the books. What a tune!

I am SO psyched to reveal that I have joined the top-notch team at Interleave as their new Senior Composer, Music & Audio Director. Interleave’s an OUTSTANDING music and audio team whose current projects include Bioshock 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and a ton of other exciting AAA titles.

I had the joy of music-consulting for (and, randomly, doing some synth design on) the official Naruto: The Symphonic Experience tour! This is a nation-wide tour of the legendary Naruto OST, live to picture (which is pretty darn cool, if I say so myself!)

だってばよ!

THE ROAD GOES ON...

It's the end of an era, folks. After about six years of service, growth, and a ton of fun making some of the most popular games in the world, I'm thrilled to say I'm moving on to new challenges and departing from Tencent.

Late to the party, but I’m finally on Bluesky! Looking forward to connecting with the game audio community on here. 🤘

Onward to MAGFest! Who all am I seeing?

Look, good gear doesn't make you a better musician, but it can inspire excitement and passion that makes practice more enjoyable, LEADING to improvements in technique. I've made more progress on piano in the last 6 months than 20 years bc I finally have a piano that feels good to play; it's crazy.

This is a fantastic article, and as someone who works for a Chinese studio, something I've noticed for ages. There are massive, massive games that have tremendous popularity that just don't really get any attention in the Western market, or get hand waved off. It's bizarre.
Here we go, something I've been drafting for a long, long time: how the US-centric approach to video games and their history / culture basically gaslights us who come from other realities:

AKA, why LAN Houses, PokéTibia & Bomba Patch rule.

NEW CREDITS!

I couldn’t end the year without one more sick announcement; I had the joy of contributing to the world of Genshin Impact with these two animated shorts: Genshin Noir, and Tip the Scales, for this year’s Hoyofair as a cello soloist! Thanks to Robert Mai for the call!

NEW ANIME CREDIT

Had a great time providing some very tender guitar for the second season of Tower of God! This show just keeps getting better and better, so I'm glad I got the opportunity to come back for round two :)

I cannot breathe 😂😭
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Composer: a career is more effective when it’s not just wall-to-wall jobs; you have to give it moments to breathe

Scoring DC Metal Force has been such a blast, but few sequences were quite as much fun as Episode 4's moment of Luthor Supremacy, where a red sun threatens to let him take out Superman forever. To provide appropriate menace, I scored Lex with what is probably DC's first Djent theme!

I'm trying to grade my Berklee course this semester, and accidentally clicked the wrong "grades" link, leading to MY undergraduate grades.

Apparently video game scoring was consistently one of my lowest grades each time I took those courses.

...uhhhhh 😅

Overwatch 2 crosses over with one of my favorite TV shows of all time, Avatar: The Last Airbender (and I got to provide the music for them!)

Worked w/ @adamgubman.bsky.social to pay proper tribute to one of the best animated series of all time. I think we did it!

NEW CREDIT!

This has honestly been one of the hardest things to keep under wraps: DC Metal Force, a new Justice League animated miniseries, launched today on DC Kids and I had the absolute joy of writing music for it.

As composers, we’re lucky; our ability to float into and out of projects as freelancers and external devs means that statistically, we tend to work on a lot more projects than many other types of creatives. It is a privilege and a luxury.

3.5 hours of zoom later… MIGHT have a solution on how to combine both Articulation Sets and Negative Delay Compensation in Logic in an elegant solution (the ability to hard-quantize your data for orchestration AND use key switches on the same track, making it feel the most natural.)

More soon…!

Composers! Demo reel time. As an audio supervisor for Tencent, I get a TON of them every day, and have started to develop a lot of feelings about how said reels are shown. I wanna talk today about why I feel @reelcrafter.com provides the best solution for this!

For a couple years, some friends and I had a residency at Boston Logan airport to play 4 hours of Christmas music once a week. They never turned off the overhead terminal music near us even once 🥲

That said, this gig was a ton of fun, so I would take this light-heartedly! We had a blast.
Bluesky music people, i have a sudden hankering to hear your worst ever holiday gig stories

After finally setting up negative delay compensation in my template, it is always so painful to revisit my old projects, look at the off-grid chaos, and just think “…I used to live like this?”

Super convenient free script for kontakt. Instantly pitch up (and transpose back down) any track to slightly lighten or darken it for doubling purposes. Fantastic when you want to enhance the sonic depth or size by doubling it without phase issues.
