I've been testing the accuracy of LLMs in transcribing printed and handwritten historical texts stored as images. I put together a corpus of 400 pages from the Library of Congress.

Current leader is GPT4.1-mini, which at 11 cents per 1K pages, is also the cheapest option. github.com/nealcaren/In...

Favourite article for #AberPGCTHE. In my seminar, they read Chew's article in advance. I start with quick retrieval practice of the 7 points. Then they type examples from their own experience into a shared doc and we discuss. My students are mostly new HE lecturers.

Love that feeling when I'm marking student projects and come across one that is spot on - deep analysis, great use of sources, reflective, and deep insights into how students learn. These are our golden moments! #AberPGCTHE

Essentially, "Here's your bespoke bot" should be read as, "Don't expect access to your professors or interaction with your classmates."
At this point, I would suggest as a general rule that the greater the embrace of this kind of approach to generative AI, the less invested the institution is in students actually learning something or having genuinely meaningful experiences. Students beware. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/t...

Your chatbot friend might be messing with your mind
OpenAI, Meta and others want people to spend more time with AI chatbots, but there is growing evidence that they can hook users or reinforce harmful ideas.
