Happy 4th! Fun fact: after the election I needed a new joyful hobby, something I could do to celebrate our eventual defeat of fascism. I’m teaching myself to twirl
The thing about this "historical fact" nonsense is that.. gender was not listed on passports until recently?? Like: 70s, 80s. So: it's a "historical fact" that this data point is... not meaningful
On the blog: In approving Trump's transphobic policy of listing sex assigned at birth on passports, SCOTUS said govt was "merely attesting to a historical fact," thus echoing the obtuseness of Plessy v Ferguson's statement that Black folks were only choosing to see segregation as white supremacy. 👇

I wish the Dems were just less OBVIOUS. Like, somehow in a convo I had with @jvl.bsky.social the other week, *I* am now the Eeyore who could see where this was heading.

Reasons I live in NYC:
- the Cambodian food I ate on Friday
- the khati roll and ceviche I ate on Saturday
- the Jewish and Iranian pastries I ate today
- the mango pulp I picked up at the Bengali grocer across from the bumpin’ dog park

This was a great convo
I listened to the arguments at the Supreme Court in the big tariff case, so you don't have to.

Wanna debrief? I sat down with @maryharris.bsky.social for Slate's What Next podcast.... and I didn't hold back.

Best part of waiting for some big live event to start on CSPAN is listening to the live callers work themselves up. Need more nerdy party line situations

I was wondering how some people were taking tonight’s news, and anyway this is what Stephen Miller is tweeting. It’s ugly. But it is a sign of how thin skinned the WH is

This convo with @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social was great, and at this point, I think we all must respect the energy she is bringing to this moment: slate.com/podcasts/wha...

This whole interview is worth reading, but this extended namecheck for @brigidbergin.bsky.social is fantastic (and makes a great case for supporting WNYC if you don't already)

The dinosaur bodega in the Grand Army Plaza subway stop got a Halloween edit 😍🦇👻🦖

Grateful to the artist @akiva.bsky.social for this fun public artwork that always makes me smile!

This is the energy, put it straight in my veins
I’ve never felt unsafe on a NYC subway. A few months ago, I was on one that stopped for about a half hour because of some malfunction, and a spontaneous dance party broke out.
A lot of people talk about how the NYC subway “feels dangerous” but please allow me to present the Dinosaur Bodega that was installed in my local stop

TLDR diversity only “weakens” you when you let the bosses tell you it should
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

Dems who are serious about fighting Trump’s authoritarianism should seriously listen to this convo w/ @jvl.bsky.social & @maryharris.bsky.social.

“Pain is the great teacher, people should be touching the stove… Dems should be in ‘I told you so mode’ not ‘I fixed it and I saved you from it’ mode.”
