🇺🇸 U.S. Expands Extrajudicial Killings to Pacific Waters

The U.S. military launched two more strikes on alleged drug-carrying boats in the eastern Pacific, killing at least five people in 48 hours — the eighth and ninth such attacks since September. The operations mark a shift from the Caribbean...

I was sort of happy the Jays won, and then Edward Rogers, the billionaire telecom monopolist, dragged his pale, flaccid corpse on stage to accept a trophy he played zero part in winning. It’s so depressing when these anemic corporate pirates come out of the woodwork after every big win. Fuck Rogers.

I’ve read very little of Dugin, and I really don’t care all that much, but this interview came up in my Twitter timeline and so I read a bit. www.multipolarpress.com/p/philosophi...

I don’t know the audience and I’m not sure if there’s a translation issue, but there are telltale charlatan signs.

When people come at you with thoughts about how a "public service" should be profitable, there are a million responses. But the one I like the best, the metaphor that clinches the idea, is asking these people if they believe that making themselves dinner, or doing laundry, should be profitable.

I’m sure someone has said this, but I haven’t seen it, so here goes: all politics involves violence. The only necessary condition for a modern nation state is having a monopoly over “legitimate” violence. That is, creating and implementing laws enforced, at least partially, by coercion.

People in North America need to understand that the US empire is now a paper tiger. They spend trillions on war, yet produce less ammo in a year than Russia, who has maybe 10% of the military budget.

Folks in Toronto, if you’re looking to support the CUPE ACC workers, this is your chance. CUPE has organized solidarity protests against Libs supporting the unconstitutional back to work orders.

If you’re in Toronto, get out to Pearson to support the Air Canada wildcat strike. This is the most important labour action in years. The government’s use of Section 107 is an act of war on labour, and CUPE is refusing to lay down their arms. If you want a future for labour in Canada, get out there.

Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

Many of us often say that the tactics used in the imperial periphery will eventually come to the core. The typical example is the Nazis, who were preempted by the Freikorps. The US has used the tactic of funding violent, destructive and hateful fringe movements to destabilize the world since WW2.

In Toronto, a landlord who owned a low income rooming house used a small fire in the building as an excuse to get rid of their tenants so they could profit off of selling the property. The incident is reported here: www.thestar.com/news/gta/it-...
‘It is shameful’: City staff slammed for leaving Toronto rooming-house tenants in ‘inhuman conditions’
Toronto city council approved the recommendations in a scathing ombudsman’s report that detailed how staff failed to act while tenants in a rooming house went without basic utilities for six months.

Watched the new American military propaganda screed, “Warfare”. It’s bizarre to see a pro-gestapo movie about an aggressive invasion, justified by a lie, trying to create feelings of attachment with brown shirts. These guys kidnapped two families, including children, in the middle of the night.

The only reason workers like overtime is because they aren’t paid enough. Employers often tout having OT hours as a benefit for workers. In reality, OT is only valuable b/c of the calamitous fall of wages over the last 50 years. This wage decrease, through OT, has now undermined the 40 hr work week.

This isn’t new but, it’s clearly a problem that a lot of left media and intellectuals talk to each other endlessly about class and the labour movement, but rarely talk to actual workers. And it’s tough, because it leaves organizers in the position of having to try and connect these worlds.

It’s always good to point out to people, when they’re advocating health privatization, the differences in costs to operate some services we take for granted. Toronto Paramedic Services has a budget of around $110M and services around 400k calls per year.

I'm certainly late to this, but the new housing announcement by the city of Toronto on March 19th will not solve the housing crisis in the city. The announcement includes 2.25B in *loans* to the city to pay developers to build ~4800 units. This is in line w the 10 year housing plan adopted in 2020.

Thinking a lot about how to transition organizing efforts, specifically tenant and labour unions, into the fight for socialism. Sam Gindin spent much of his life thinking about this, and so I found this article, even though from 1998, incredibly insightful: socialistregister.com/index.php/sr...
