The Angry Unicorn is a fantasy tavern name I came up with as a teenager.
Now, it’s a location in my Simarron Mysteries books. It was just waiting for the right project. 🦄

I love this quote from C.S. Lewis about #centaurs

“A Centaur has a man-stomach and a horse-stomach. And of course both want breakfast. So first of all he has porridge and pavenders and kidneys and bacon and omlette and cold ham and toast and marmalade and coffee and beer."

Is winter storm Fern affecting you? Are you staying cozy and warm or do you like to play in the snow?
I'm reminded of this watercolor piece I painted in 2006!

2026 is the Year of the Horse. Fitting, because I wrote a book with a centaur hero and I’m looking for my herd: readers who love detailed world building, magical mysteries, and found families. 💜🐴📚

2026 is the Year of the Horse. I'll be posting some of my horse art, trying to find my herd. 🐴💖

I like to read books about US history of the late 1800's - early 1900's. A lot of the same shit, different century. I use it as influence in my fictional world building, too.
It is useful, these days, to follow and read actual historians, especially historians of US history, to get context and perspective on what is happening now and how it relates to, emerges from, and reflects our deeply troubled and often violent past as a nation.

Growing up, I was a huge horse girl but, unfortunately for me, my family lived in the city. Every summer I begged to go to horse camp. Instead, my mom tried to encourage other interests, like the time she sent me to electricity camp. (My transistor radio never worked.)

As a horse girl who is now an adult, of course the main character of my novel is a centaur. But just how horsey is he?

A reviewer wrote: "...the author keeps Simarron in character, referring to his hoofsteps instead of footsteps, and the way he experiences the world, through scent and taste...."

I published my first book in September 2025.
This year, I sold 66 eBook copies and 29 print copies.
Can I sell 5 more books/eBooks before the end of the year and make it to 100 total?

2025 has been a journey full of highs and lows, and I'm thankful for the bookish community here on BlueSky.

It warms my heart to see writers cheering each other on every day.

Thank you to everyone who's reposted or replied to one of my posts.

Halloween is almost here!

In the world of "The Vanishing Castle," the dead can talk – as long as the necromancer gets a permit, of course, and consent from the deceased’s family.

I'm re-reading "King of the Wind" by Marguerite Henry. 🐴 The prose is so clear and beautiful.

Why does the world of 18th century Morocco feel so real?

“I read every day and every night until these ghostly people assumed substance and began to take me into their confidence,” Henry wrote in 1969.

🎃 11 days until Halloween…
Want a little treat in your inbox?

If you're signed up for the free Centaur Post newsletter (link in bio), I’ll send you a short story on Halloween called “Guilty Cake.” In it, a kitchen and a confection are not quite what they seem.

It's #WorldAllergyAwarenessDay!

I deal with multiple food allergies myself, and that personal experience helped shape the magic system in my book.

“What is food for some, may be fierce poison for others.” - Titus Lucretius Cato (98–55 BCE)

Remember: Read every label, every time 💀

Happy #AdaLovelaceDay!

In the 1840's, Ada Lovelace wrote what is considered the world’s first computer algorithm.

Today, I’m just trying to write a post the algorithm gods will smile upon so I can connect with my people.

Here’s to you, Ada! And if you're listening... I could use a little help.

I've always wanted to have tea with a faun.

Some may cringe at the practical effects in the 1988 BBC version of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," but to me they're part of the whimsy.

If you could have tea with any magical creature, who would it be?
