It’s so hard to stay motivated during the fall semester when you’re on the job market because it really feels like you’re sending your applications into the void.
Please tell me it gets better? 😭

Interesting that we’re seeing ads for ChatGPT now.
It’s almost like they over-promised and under-delivered and are having trouble finding people who are actually willing to pay to use it.

I actually don't really care if AI is useful/interesting/good for some things in education actually - it is besides these things clearly a big problem already that maybe need listing yet again:

Today I graded my students’ resume writing assignments and found out that one of them has an op-ed in the local newspaper, another has a pretty successful YouTube channel, and another has A WIKIPEDIA PAGE.
They are so damn cool, ya’ll.

Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends.
But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month.
See you soon, NYC.

Really can't emphasize enough that Character.AI is a predatory company profiting off of vulnerable children and if you're a teacher using the platform - or other LLMs - to "talk" with fictional or historical figures just stop.

Once humanities professors start quoting ChatGPT generated notes about theory in grad classes, this thing that we do is completely over. Either we're modeling lateral thinking for future professors or the humanities should be shut down.
