Wore my @transalt.org One Less Car shirt to the gym. A man who is in his 70s/80s who I've seen before came up:
Him: does your shirt mean you support biking?
Me: yes [talks about TA]
Him: where can I get a 3 wheeler? I'm scared about falling because I love looking at the trees when I bike.

I've never seen this in MoCo before: a cyclist-o-meter. It says how many cyclists today, and roughly how many year to date. What do you think?

Yes! This is why I kind of hate can drives. Instead we donated directly to manna food and shepherd's table.
This is what I try to always tell people: food banks can do way more with your money than you can, due to bulk buying deals. And they can do way, way more with your money than with the canned goods you didn’t want to eat
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Totally agree, I literally did not know people commonly say this. Maybe I've been spoiled but some pretty amazing advocates. Most youth cannot drive, and there's plenty of people that can't drive for various reasons but can cycle.
My unpopular opinion: those of us advocating for non-car travel need to stop apologetically saying "I know not everybody can cycle!" Obviously not everyone can cycle, but that's also true of driving. I fear we're just giving our opponents' attack lines legitimacy by shouting them out for free

Wow plus one on not realizing that parking in bike lanes was legal in MoCo. As You can see from my post yesterday, it's a big problem. Glad @montgomerycountymd.bsky.social has remedied that!

MCPS shared potential sites for the relocation of Sligo Creek Elementary School, a walkable neighborhood school serving downtown Silver Spring. Three are park sites near the urban core, one is unspecified commercial space and the rest are in low-density neighborhoods not walkable to downtown.

I thought the mainstream coverage of no kings was so bizarre.
Once again, the main day of Tea Party protests had about 300,000 nationwide, but saw endless coverage.

The No Kings protests had about 7,000,000 nationwide, and many media outlets reacted with a yawn.

No Kings was nearly 25x as big as the Tea Party but the Tea Party got 25x the attention.
Ask yourself this: How would the New York Times have covered the protests if it had been seven million MAGA supporters flooding the streets? We don’t even have to guess: We know how they and other mainstream outlets covered the Tea Party protests during Obama’s first term.

And this is a major reason we need a variety of different types of housing in all our neighborhoods; people can find housing that meets their current needs in the neighborhoods they live in.
Our population of residents 60 and older in Montgomery County is growing, with a projected population of 25% by 2030 — and I will be one of them! As someone who grew up in an intergenerational home, I know firsthand the value and contributions of our older adults and importance of aging in place.
